The final part of “Nick Arcade” was the best part of the show. However, the kids’ final boss was actually one of three characters: Mongo (that big bulky guy you mentioned), Merlock (an evil Merlin-type wizard), or Scorchia (a fiery sorceress).

GrahfMetal pretty much like just about every single person watching a game show or sporting event ever, you aren’t seeing what they see so you get the chance to think it through and can assess the situation overall and often come to a different conclusion. Combine that with the fact that at the age of 10 or 12 you start to become more self aware thus think you know it all. In a nutshell, you weren’t better.

If you haven't already done so, I would absolutely LOVE to see you review the television show GamePro TV. It was a television show based on a popular video game magazine that I used to subscribe to. The magazine was everything that you would ever want from a video game magazine. It had reviews, it had April Fool's video game pranks, and if I'm remembering correctly it even had freaking posters, so naturally, the TV version of it was insanely cool as well. It was hosted by JD Roth and some other guy and I can't remember if this other guy stuck around for later seasons, but I just remember JD Roth in later seasons, probably because JD Roth was the down to Earth cool guy like the host of Nick Arcade, while the other guy was somewhat like the host of Video Power, in that he he portrayed a character. I recorded at least one episode (or some of an episode) on VHS, which I'm sure by now has been erased over.

I don't remember Video Power airing in the mornings before school, but I may have been watching something else instead, like Bobby's World or Conan The Barbarian, or a syndicated series. I remember seeing it more during the summertime when it aired during the late morning or early afternoon. Nick Arcade, I definitely watched that each day it was on (which was basically every single day). Video chaaaallleeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnge! Great memories.

One of the hosts was good o'l JD Roth who became a producer for other shows later. He also hosted Fun House and Anonymous a game show too. That was a great show as well.

They said my name and used my tip during the stump Johnny segment once! I was so hyped as a kid, I accidentally found out in mega man 3 that if u hold up on controller 2 it makes mega man jump hella high to the ceiling. I sent that in to video power and drew a bunch of nintendo characters on the envelope

I don't remember either one. I'm about 8 years older than James, so in 1992 I was moved out/living on my own, and while I did play games I didn't watch TV (never had TV service after moving out, stuck with VHS tapes, later DVD's, and now downloaded stuff). I do remember something from the early/mid 80's where people would compete on a game show on arcade games. They were timed and it was usually who could compete a level the fastest or get the highest score. These were things like Tempest, Galaga, early 80's arcade games. Can't for the life of me remember the name of it though.

@Jiterdomer4 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember that on G4 while Nick Arcade is like Starcade but ran on game consoles and instead of racking up points to your score based on a game score, you have to beat a certain score to win a points that your partner was wagered to deduct or add to the score.

I remember Video Power. It aired after school on terrestrial TV here, at around dinner time, so no issues catching it. Nick Arcade however, satellite TV was expensive over here back in the 90s, so I have no memories of it since my dad and mom steadfastly refused to sign up for satellite.

Not really, originally it was that crappy cartoon. I like the gameshow better because it was hosted by Johnny Arcade and he really was off the wall. Like I mentioned in another post I remeber one episode he farted behind his podium and jumped out from behind it fanning his ass. Hilarious when you were a kid because it was not anything you’d ever see on TV.
@AyumuNarumi756 жыл бұрын
It wasn't just a cartoon. Johnny would review a game, and then they would show the cartoon. Then after the cartoon Johnny would give tips and review another game.

I grew up in Mexico, so I never got to even hear about these shows. We did have a couple of them, though. One was from the very early 90s and was called Intercontrol. They would give game tips (I actually learned about the infamous bomb+pause glitch for Blaster Master on the NES there), updates on upcoming games for the NES, and they also had a game show segment. The contestants would have to beat a game themed obstacle course (I think it was Mario themed) and would win stuff like shirts and maybe games. There's practically no footage from this show on KZbin, though :( The other one, and perhaps the most widely known in Mexico was called Nintendomania, and it's from the mid to late 90s. I think most of the show was just about reviewing games, news segments and interviews with industry people, and a cheats/stragegy tips section. There's more footage from this show on KZbin in case anyone would like to see how we rolled back then :)
