Some how I really love the simplicity for this Optimus. The perfect effect adds a bit of a backpack, but really does fill him out some. The combiner form is simply amazing.

Glad I was able to go ahead and get this from BBTS, I kind of like this Optimus. A little surprised to see the paint detail in the robot mode yet missing some detail in truck mode. It also has that all black wheel, which I'm not a fan of. The truck itself looks more like a Euro design, Scania perhaps. Overall I'm happy with the look of it though, flaws and all. +Thundertron The Destroyer of Cybertronians I love the name yah dirty pirate, lol. As far as this mold, I'd agree with liking it. It's surprisingly articulated despite the "blocky" appearance and it pretty much grew on me. The weapons are nice and the nods to Energon are neat. I personally would have liked to see transparent windows, light-piping and less.. stickers.

I like the combiner wars line so far. And those of you who are complaining about the simplicity and blockiness: well g1 toys used to be blocky too but we love them. They simple transformations. I think Hasbro is trying to go for that.

This screams G1 Optimus Prime, for me. That's the whole reason I bought mine, I always like the models that go back to the 80s look; and this Combiner Wars series is definitely doing that. Did you know that: there is an SND upgrade kit for that product. Takes time but he will look a lot more appealing once you are done. Nothing is said about the back piece.

He looks better than that Classics Voyager Optimus Prime, in my opinion. So many reviewers use the Classics version as their "go to". I have that one and I think that it's too short and clunky. I thoroughly enjoy this version and he's my "go to" on the shelf. Great review though!

Hi Paul! A big fan of your reviews. Understand what you mean by the weird hip joint ratchet angles in combiner form bit I think shifting them inward will help more with stability.

Well holding this in my hand now, I'm going to return it. There's a reason why people say this mold speaks motormaster - the proportion is too thuggish in Optimus mode and too much like a gorilla in ultra prime torso mode. It lacks any elegance you expect from Optimus prime. Even if you take into account the stunticons being bigger as shins the gorilla look is more appropriate as menasor. Also you absolutely have to peg the leg plates in order to support the upper body weight. If you skip it the upper body will just collapse as Optimus' knees are not ratchet joints.

Andrew Lewis WAYYY better than the PCC or Bruticus. Hasbro has nailed the combining gimmick with these figures. I love em and knew i would which was also why i sold off my 3rd party combiners. Just had no interest in them once Hasbro started making official ones

I think they slap Decepticon Dragstrip on to him and Superion to let people know "HEY! YOU DON'T NEED TO GO WITH THE ORIGINAL COMBINERS! YOU CAN MIX THE PARTS UP AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR OWN SUPER BOT!" Target didn't have these in stock today but they had Alpha Bravo, Dragstrip, Firefly and Skydive. Also the hands they come with are kind of sucky. They really lack articulation... oh well. Just did some Googling for future combiners. Most of the ones I've seen are remolds or retools. Motormaster has this same mold but with some slight differences. It's kinda disappointing.

What really bothers me about this figure is the truck mode looks half assed, you'd think that they would paint it up a little. It seems that when we get a new Optimus he's either to small or painted like crap. If they are gonna have an Ultra Op then they could give you some of his own limbs or at least repaints. In robot mode, what the hell is with that tiny little head. This is a skip for me, I'll stick with Toyworld Orion as my go to Prime. As always I do enjoy your reviews.

Leader Magatron is a perfect Megatron for classics/generations but I feel we still haven't had a decent size and mold Optimus Prime. This body is great for Motor Master but doesn't suit Optimus at all. Easy skip for me.
