Video tutorial: Morning star quilt block - foundation piecing block

This is one of those blocks that gives the impression of curves when there're none. I chose to make it with paper piecing because it's just easy. It's also a good block to learn foundation piecing with.
When you cut the fabric pieces, cut them at least 1/2" larger than the triangle including the seam allowances.

Hoooo boy! Love your videos! I’m working on a storm at sea paper pieced right now. I thought I had the rough sizes figured out to avoid so much waste, buttttttt not so much. After a couple near misses, I just resigned myself to cutting a lot off after stitching. The section with the rhombus in it should have sooooo easy, but I kept not getting it. I think it’s a brain thing. Anyway, that was a fun block and as always you make it look so easy.

When I do PP I check if the block is the right size by placing the fabric right side up where it would go. If it fits with a bit leftover, you're good to go.

This tip about sewing kaleidoscope blocks may help you. The secret is to stop stitching at the first seamline when you are joining the 4 sets of triangles together. Then you can press the final seam smoothly on the back!
