Rhaenys really should have married Viserys so they could rule the seven kingdoms together, Corlys Velaryon could then have married Aemma Arryn, who was still a descendant of Jaehaerys.

If they had married him to Aemma Arryn, sure hes ambitious, and rich, but so are the Lannisters, Hightowers, and Redwynes, without dragons, lords having ambition isnt usually a threat.

Something about the book I didn't think I'd like, but grew to like, is the fact that 65-70% of the storylines in the book are openly unconfirmed. I like to think George was indecisive and just said "f*** it, we'll use all 3 plot points...let the show decide what's fact." It's a mixup from the original...where the GoT books and the show are distinctly different. With house of the dragon, the book and show are one in the same universe.

Great detail and very interesting topic I haven't seen covered yet in a video like this. One complaint though is that the episodes repeat themselves and sometimes I have to double check I didn't accidentally press the button to go back 10 seconds. Same script repeated twice feels so weird to hear multiple times.

Having Daemon kill his first wife was the most stupid change from the original story. The desire to make Daemon such a villain is one of the things Martin himself often spoke against. Every bit of goodness in Daemon was wiped out in order to create a super villain. Martin knows people are all complex mixtures of good and bad, and this is what makes his stories better. I hope Martin steps in to stop the show runners from ruining his book like they did with GOT. This is not the fairy tale of pure good versus pure evil. If that is the kind of story you want then stick to Disney fairy tales.

There may not have been any physical representations of House Maidenpool, but their house is mentioned in GOT in the 2nd Season by Arya while she's a captive at Harrenhal posing or conscripted into being Tywin's Cup Bearer. Even if it hadn't been, to the producers of the show I ask; what difference would it make? The audience knows it's watching a show laden with priviledged rich folk hierarchies and their political machinations.

Only reason I view Viserys as the heir over Rhaenys/Laenor was the name change. I'd want my family to inherit not someone else's, but with the caviat of Laenor taking the name Targaryen like the said for Jacerys in the show I'd have supported Rhaenys

@@tyrant7583 Lord Corlys specifically inquired to the issue of the name of his future grandchildren before agreeing to the match of his Heir Laenor and the Princess Rhaenys. The King then stated that their children would bear Lord Corlys’s name until they ascended the throne and took the name of the royal family. Lord Corlys held paused for a brief moment before agreeing. This all would suggest that Corlys was expecting the King to make such a provision. However he could take no offense at it either. The only thing to conclude is that such a provision is not the norm, but is neither unprecedented. Of course this is hard it’s say as it’s one of the less comparable to reality elements of Westerousi Politics. That the Royal Family of Westerous retains it’s own name is actualy a deviation for the commonly citied sources historical inspiration by GRRM. That said, looking at the dialogue in the scene itself, that Corlys sought to have the matter addressed in specific would suggest there was not a normal protocol for the matter.

I don't get it. A family name isn't what makes a family a family. I get it when you are member of a big house and live a feudalistic ideology, but from a modern viewpoint? I wouldnt care if my son takes the surname of his wife. You should question your values if you attach this much value to your surname. Feels like nationlism on a family level to me.

I liked the scenes of the hunt. Its dripping with symbolism, Viscerys is assured the stag they are tracking is a giant white stag. When they catch it is big but normal brown, and Viscerys cant kill it cleanly in one strike. Meanwhile, Rheneyra and Cristan find the white stag but she doesn't want to kill it. Symbolic of Viscerys indecisive nature and hinting his reign wont end cleanly, and meanwhile since he believes in the prophecy you can easily think the white stag was never meant for him, but meant for Rheneyra, but her nature is to let it be. I liked it a lot.

Nah man, sorry... Timing doesn't add up right. He refused to be her "whore", when she said she could leave with him. She had just agreed to marry the sea snakes son, so they wouldn't have slept since that point and I doubt they slept together more than that first time, as it wouldn't of been an easy thing to do, as kings guard and princess. I'm sure they didn't get married the very next day... They had to prepare for a wedding, including who to invite, sending Ravens or messengers to attend the wedding. Do plenty of hunting, since for the daughter of a kings wedding, nothing but the best would be served (I can keep going but I'll cut to the 2 points that prove it). 1, she was like 16 when she agreed to married, after the time skip, she was in her early 20s at youngest and when she had her 2nd child, her oldest was a couple years old, so she didn't get pregnant for several years, after turning down sir Cole. 2nd reason, they kind of gave everyone the clue, her first born was sir strongs... During the kings last family dinner, and older Aegon made a comment and strongs eldest son, stood up and patted his shoulder, showing he had strength. Even Aegon made a face like "hes that kind of hurts". Although I would definitely like the idea of him being Coles, the timing, just doesn't add up at all.

Hey, I like the idea behind this video, and I can see you put a lot of work into these. If you don't mind some feedback, someone else mentioned the music. For me it wasn't the volume, the issue is that it's a very famous song. Not just from Uncharted but the original "where is my mind". It has like a hundred million views on KZbin and is in many movies. It's way too popular and recognizable to be background music. You need something that easily fades into the background without distracting from the narration, not a catchy earworm that gets stuck in your head. Appreciate the hard work, be interesting to see where they go with this series next year.

All those changes are going to create two very different endings. Thats why they are focusing on prequels (remember Snow was Kits idea) so they can make shows that lead up to Game of Thrones (show and book) no matter which version of events you follow from there.

He wanted to pick on him/scare him... Same as him, his brother and Aegon did, giving him a pig. The chase was to scare him too but you saw, when his dragon wouldn't listen, he was trying to stop him. Basically throwing salt on the wound, since he also knows they aren't Valeryan, he's already beaten him by getting baratheons support first and he knew, Luke wanted that support because his brother was already crowned in front of the masses.

I like that a lot of these weren't "removed", just changed slightly to reflect what a lot of issues are in real life: tragedies and misunderstandings. The books are told by unreliable narrators but the show is written to have the camera be a more neutral observer

Doesn't work like that, during a time when royalty married eachother, to keep the bloodline pure. The ruler, is the ruler, until death. If he can competently say "I can't do this anymore, my daughter shall rule", then his title doesn't change. Besides, that's why they have hands of the kings. Incase they were to become severely ill, unable or even leave their bed, their hand would take over all duties by default, temporarily.

while I can't speak on how this reflects on the books, because this conversation isn't in the books, the scene in HOTD where Viserys is asking for Otto's council on the marriage to the 12 y.o. Velaryon daughter. While the maggots chew on his rotten finger lol. That scene though really causes problems for me with the Maester conspiracy, because his maester gives good advice to strengthen their dragon blood, and he also looks suspicious of Otto's words, which in retrospect were said because he wanted his daughter to be queen instead. But even then, I don't think Otto had a 'conspiracy' to overthrow the Targaryens either (at least as far as HOTD is concerned, none of these scenes are really in the books). During the hunt, Otto gives Viserys good advice, if a bit uncomfortable, to marry Aegon and Rhaenyra and bring the house back together to stop a divide. Seems to me its a lot of people making decisions in the moment that serve their own interests, rather than long planned and plotted conspiracies, which is closer to reality and seems more along the lines of how George writes conflict. And with Georges much heavier involvement in HOTD than GOT, and it seeming to have the goal to 'right' some of the wrongs of GOT (particularly with prophecy and the magic of westeros), I feel like its a lot more justified to look at HOTD as an expansion of Fire and Blood, at least more than GoT was.

It was clear from the start whom all the lords favored. Who would be chosen in the great council. That entire charade was to show corpys valerion how little support he had even with all the bribes he spent. Jaheryes targeryan wanted to prevent another civil war and this time it would be gragon against dragon. A shrewder king than viseryes i would have executed or assasinated corlys the first chance they got to nip the valerions in the bud.

So to say that "everything happens by accident" in this show, is untrue...

As someone who hasn't read the books (still, I know) 2 things I've been wondering about: Do book readers like the change of Rhaenys' hair? Based on the study scene in front of the weirwood tree, I'd think a commoner in Westworos would assume Rhaenyra's children would be chaotic while Alicent's more behaved? Instead it's the opposite... How were the children brought up? Some thoughts I'd like to come back to when I'm finished watching the video. PS, loving the editing and content
