By the way, the thing i hold up to perforate the wall is called a Paper Tiger. This can be purchased on line or at most hardware stores.

Ahhh. You are a genius! I've been waiting over a year for my husband to take down a kitchen border that has been on the wall when I moved in 15 years ago....sad huh. I used hot water and some dollar tree fabric softener. The border came down easily and the job was complete in 30 minutes. Thank you! Thank you! I am ready to paint now.

John, thank you for taking the time to write back. You had many good suggestions and I tried each. Using boiled hot water was perfect! Upon the 3rd section I came to realize our wallpaper really needed a good, long soaking & using a wet towel worked very well. Patience was the answer & repeated soaking with a wet towel over a 30-45 minute period proved to work and the perforated wallpaper came off easily, but still had dry spots that did not come off that easily. I realized also I needed to score it much more than the instructions for it. Basically, it's a b***h taking off wallpaper & I found I had to try many different approaches. I think you're terrific for taking the time putting this video out and us DIYers have to try many different ways, as one size doesn't fit all. Thank you many times over! ps- my friend used your fabric softener suggestion & had great success

Been removing wallpaper for years and the newspaper is an excellent idea. The idea is to keep the wallpaper moist... trap moisture so that it will penetrate to the glue or adhesive. Another trick is to wet the wall with spray bottle mist and immediately trap that moisture with painters plastic. Have a section rolled out and ready to go up on the wall once you’ve wet it. It will cling to the wet wall. Leave it there for 15 to 20 min. Test to see if the wallpaper peels off. May need to reapply some moisture. I even use a little ammonia if you can tolerate the smell, that helps loosen the glue or paste.
@videocameradude5 жыл бұрын
Hello Sammy, thank you for watching my wallpaper removal video and for your comments. All that water is fine, but you NEED something to break down the glue. You mention amonia, but why use that when you can use sweet smelling fabric softner. So that is the secret to making wall paper remove easily. - thanks for watching, john ripper

Thank you for this. This makes me a LITTLE less anxious about removing the wallpaper that has been in my kitchen for 40 years--I AM NOT KIDDING. Two questions: If it is already peeling in some places, should I try to just peel it first or do the water/softner step first regardless? And, it goes behind my kitchen cabinets and counter tops--how do I tackle where it meets the cabinets/borders? Should I run a utility knife along edge first to make straight tears? I'm scared! Thank you!
@videocameradude8 жыл бұрын
+debbadepp Debb, thanks for the watching my silly video. Have you done your kitchen yet? sorry for getting back to you so late. I would suggest to tear off the first layer, but the water solution will make it that much easier to peel. As far as your cabinets and borders, a utility knife along the edge should do the trick. aquahaulic96 .... that's a very good idea. In fact, you don't necessarily have to use a full roller, you can also purchase small rollers as well. A smaller roller would be easier if you were dunkin' it in a bucket. If you use the full roller with the standard roller pan, I think you'd be filling it up all the time. Of course you'd have a larger solution that would be poored into the pan. Let me know how the roller works out. thanks, ripper

Great video. Never thought that fabric softener would work to "de-glue" the glue. Seems a lot safer than those chemicals they suggest. I was wondering... what is the name of the tool you used to score the wallpaper? I have some pretty thick wallpaper (probably a couple of layers underneath, too) at my mother's house she needs to get rid of and even though this looks fairly easy I have my doubts about this particular project, unless i can find a deep enough mechanism to score the paper. Thanks and again, great video!

Yeah! Burn your hands by rubbing it on with a hot & wet rag instead of using a paint roller and plastic paint tray for the hot-water solution ($1 each at dollar tree) and then pressing the solution through the mini holes using the roller, which does a much better job, especially if you repeat the roll on process every 15 minutes for 3 X before attempting to remove the wallpaper. Some people love to do things the hard way....
@videocameradude2 жыл бұрын
thank you for checking out my video. I find that using a paint roller isn't a controlled area as much as a wet cloth. Besides, a wet cloth holds more water than a roller, which is the point to the exercise. If you wait fifteen minutes and wet the paper again, you're just wasting time, as the paper dries again. This is not the hard way, as my video proves. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

If it seriously won't let go, you can paint over it with an oil base sealer, like BIN. I had to do this once in a stairway years ago, due to many layers of paper and time/money constraints of the home owner. It worked out well. Had to skim over some spots with wall compound where we had attempted to steam it and scrape. It came out much better then I had anticipated
