Roy was a part of my childhood, he seemed to always be on Jackanory which was a childhood favorite of mine as well as many other shows. His son Rory looks like him and is a great actor/performer himself.

He was a great comic actor who I admired hugely when growing up and was lucky enough to interview him for the radio back in 1986. Sadly that interview could be used at the time due to technical problems with the tape, and only recently I managed to restore it and used it in documentary I put together providing advice for emerging actors. I remember when I met him that we spent most of the time just laughing.

In the US, he's known mostly for being the inept and kindly assistant to the mad scientist portrayed by Victor Spinetti in the film "Help!", as well as the father of Veruca Salt in the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". What a wonderful tribute.

I first saw him in the film Melody.He had a scene near the end of the film with young Tracey Hyde in her first film and you could see he was being gentle and helping her along.
