@@King_Luigi You make good points, but ultimately the answer lies in details we do not know. How much additional publicity and exposure can Bigmode offer? How much did the deal cost? How close are the publisher and the developer? Ultimately, they both agreed on the deal, so evidently they both think they're getting something good from it. And I know you probably didn't intend it that way, but your comments also come across as somewhat bad faith attacks. This is a small indie publisher announcing its first title, a small indie developer's first game. Not only does the game itself look extremely promising, but the main thing to celebrate here is independent producers making something fully outside of the cursed, soulless oligarchy that is contemporary mainstream publishing. That's a win in my book. Even if the game doesn't do as well as we might hope - which I highly doubt because it looks excellent - this is still an awesome first step for what we can reasonably expect to become a very solid independent publisher - not least since it's the passion project of our favourite KZbinr in whose comment section we are presently gathered!

People frequently complain about the size and repeated bosses, but it still has the highest number of unique bosses in any Fromsoft game by a decent margin. The size as well gives you so much room to vary what you choose to do on repeat playthroughs. Build diversity is strong, spells are better and more varied than ever, and the landscapes are just a treat to look at. The land is so big that there are things I discovered on my first playthrough that I haven't found again on repeat playthroughs. It's an absolute gem of a game and I'll continue playing it for years to come. Now give me Bloodborne on PC

I'm amazed at how polished Dunkey has become. His videos have always been efficient but for a long time had an edgy resistance. The Dunkey I see in this video is extremely confident. With a long legacy of inside jokes and bits he's able to lean into what makes him special without losing focus. To see it all come together so harmoniously is powerful. I love Dunkey, can't wait to play Animal Well and can't wait to follow Dunkey for the rest of my life

I also played Alan Wake this past year and had a blast with it. The stage fight with "Children of the Elder God" blasting, marching through town with Sarah Breaker while she kills everything like she's related to the Doom Slayer, and Barry showing up wrapped in Christmas lights and armed to the teeth? publisher, it's basically just a glorified advertisement agency. He doesn't develop the games or have any real say over them. He can be like "you do this or I wont publish", which is what most AAA game publishers do to their game devs which is why microtransactions and p2w exists, but other than that the publisher and game dev are completely separate entities. It also actually makes a lot of sense for a large youtuber to be a publisher. A publisher needs 2 things, good connections to video game platforms to get a better revenue cut, or a respected platform that people buy from out of brand loyalty. I've got no idea if dunkey has ins with steam to get a better cut than 70%, but he definitely has a super respected platform and will likely be using it to sell games to us.

For example, translations are typically handled by publishers. So is community feedback, which is then curated and fed to the developers. Sure, advertising is a big part of it. As is "social media presence", technical support, dealing with legal stuff, authorities, funding, taxes, international distribution etc. but publishers often interact with the developers during development on much more than just loot boxes.

Do you have the funds to pay up front for that, possibly months before you get any revenue back? Then do you know how to get those boxes into the shelves of gaming stores in Indonesia and Argentina? What information the local laws require you to display on the case? Which wholesaler the largest Malaysian chain of supermakerts uses to supply their dedicated gaming aisles? That's what publishers are for.
