Here in Japan, we get tsunami alert from earthquakes happening in Southern America. However, this tsunami was a totally new type and the experts did not know enough about this type. Japan has sensors to detect tsunamis in several places in the ocean but the sensors are not made to detect air pressure differences.

This is why the Oregon coast had an advisory that many people ignored. In the end, the waves were pretty unimpressive, but if people want to put their own lives in danger, it should all be on them. The problem is that the coast guard would be sent to look for idiots washed out to sea and that's putting other lives in danger.

@@maryfiducioso3478 "deep research". Never heard that academic term before. Care to elaborate? Can you explain why 90%+ of all hospitalizations in the past several months have been the unvaccinated? You realize that vaccines are meant to reduce harm to society as a whole, not to entirely eradicate a virus? No vaccine is really 100% effective, though some like the polio vaccine goes from 90% after 1 does to 99-99.99% after 2-3 doses, being effectively 100% effective. However because of anti-vax nonsense from people who "did their own research" polio has made a comeback in Pakistan, while Measles has done the same in the US. Smallpox was reduced in spread and harm staring by inoculation (starting in the 16th century) and then later vaccination and it killed 800 million people in the 19th and 20th centuries and certainly billions in the thousands of years it affected humans. It was wiped out worldwide in 1980 by a global vaccination campaign. Do you consider yourself pro-plague?

@S Yeh volcanoes are erupting with such force tsunami waves are reaching NZ, Australia, Japan and the US. You do realize tsunami waves from volcanic eruptions are incredibly rare right? There were no warnings because they were unprepared for the strength of the eruption and it's ability to generate tsunami waves so far away. No doubt that whole plate is shifting too, do you really think they'd tell us about that?

From what I am gleaming from some online sources the volcano is still actively erupting at this time. So who knows we may or may not see more small surge impulses from tsunamis generated by the volcano. I am worried about the people in Tonga I have not heard if any communications have been reestablished with the Island nation yet. I know that all communication was lost not long after they got hit with the brunt of the tsunami.

The minor taste that was given to the west coast is significant to show the power of the underwater volcano. Had it been above the surface I dare say it would have been relevant to Krakatowa's eruption. Thus, it would have been probably on the order of a 1000 times worse for everyone. Go back in history and review. And be glad it was underwater.

Krakatoa's eruption was above the surface mostly and threw 100+ foot tsunami waves locally (mostly from landslides), this one was undersea (which should've displace more water proportionally) and only 4 foot waves in nearby Tonga. So I'd guess around 25x less energy at a minimum.
