@TRUECRIMESPTV so the cars that were on the bridge, were those of the construction workers who were not able to be saved. However, the ship was able to call in a mayday and give warning, so traffic could be stopped, which they were fully able to do. You see on the videos, cars driving by, by then you see the flow of traffic stopping. The only cars that were actually on the bridge, were the construction workers, which were the flashing lights we saw on the bridge. There were, i believe 8 workers, from what i heard, and only 2 have been found. The rest were presumed dead. By the time they thought about the construction workers, it was too late.

and to make matters worse, not only will highway traffic be rerouted and bottled necks adding many miles for daily travelers but shipping will be stunted, not only the amount of goods now stuck at port,. ships including, but also their goods. this is a big deal, and a clear example how in times of war, such a geographical layout becomes a major target to an enemy. this even effective shuts down the Baltimore corridor. It will take at least a year to remove the current bridge and make safe the shipping lanes. and its likely their wont be enough money to build another bridge.

You're absolutely right there won't be enough money. Most of these states which let me remind you are blue. Charge a lot to cross this bridge. The money that they have made just in the last two to three years they should have been able to build a whole nother one. What are tugboats? Why are they used? Why did the Port Authority allow ships to pass through without tugboats to prevent situations like this from happening. What does it cost to have a tugboat requirement when you are getting that close to a bridge? What is the replacement cost to the bridge? Will the Port Authority wake up and do risk management or do people have to feel unsafe passing over a bridge when a ship passes through. Other states do not allow the passing of ships without tugboats. We will see if the truth comes out.

They didn't mention the ships currently in the harbor that were either loading up or delivering cargo and they are now stuck there until the channel is cleared. The good news is that clearing the channel will be a lot faster than the rebuilding of the bridge. IF decide just to rebuild it as it was. If the change the design then you are talking about a lot longer to rebuild it. It took 5 years to build the original bridge, and while a lot of that was building the approaches, It is still likely to take at least 2 years or more with a all out push to replace the spans - without any significant changes in design. On thing they should be doing is building protective barriers to prevent a repeat of this mess. I'm surprised that this was not done already. Even if it requires them to narrow the ship channel to do so, protecting the new spans needs to be as high a priority as replacing the old ones.

This is a redundant meaning was an “extra” link. Very out of the way for eastern seaboard traffic that normally uses the two tunnels considerably closer into the city. It may not be prudent to replace in the same fracture critical type of truss. Either a new tunnel or a suspension or cable stayed design with a greater central span.

The fact that, in 2024 bridges are built without safeguards/barriers around key parts of the infrastructure to assure that this kind of thing doesn't happen. It doesn't appear that there is much protecting the 4 legs of each support structure.
