I was a percussionist from 79-82 and remember we hit "Cyrus the Great" going under the overpass a couple of times during the parade (when it was a lot smaller than it is now, of course). I wish we would have stopped to play Slavonic like Mr. Touchstone had them do here. What ambience! After all these years, Slavonic still does it for me! Rest in Peace, Charles R. Smith. You helped make me the man I am today. One, two, proudly play!

Slavonic is such a beautiful piece- but Slavonic played at a slower tempo resonates the soul-as intended. Please remember, CR Smith started this wonderful tradition of Slavonic being The Band of Bands signature piece. Do him proud and play this beautiful tradition slower with pride and respect to CR Smith's memory! For those of us who heard these famous words before we played Slavonic- "one, two, proudly play!"
