Vidya Balan Interview | Anupama Chopra | Face Time

After a break from the movies for almost a year, Vidya Balan tells Film Companion about how she used her time off to mourn the failure of her last few films and lead a more healthy lifestyle. "It's hard for me to admit, but after five big successes a sense of invincibility had crept in," she says. She also tells us about the things she's discovered she just can't do - a selfie pout, and dance in a chiffon sari and look coy. "I wore a mustard sari in Heyy Babyy and I looked like a sarson ka khet," she laughs. Having said that, the Kahaani 2 actress says that she's pleased to see more real and well-rounded characters written for women in Hindi cinema.

rani and kangana are not consistently likeable - they have both been bitchy with colleagues from time to time. tabu doesn't do enough interviews for us to get a good feel of her personality, but if she's friends with farah khan she must be funny. lol

i think vidya is limited by her physical appearance somewhat...but then most actors are. could you imagine ranbir kapoor playing bajirao for instance? absolutely not...doesn't mean he's not a good actor, but some actor's versatility is affected by their physical appearance. similarly vidya could never quite do the roles that her contemporaries are pulling off right now...but similarly she has her own space and that's okay. at least she does good work and is good at it!

Zinta was definitely more genuine than Rani! Rani seemed nice, but I don't know how true that was behind the scenes...it's not very nice to go sign your friend's movie behind their back and not mention it to them at all (i'm talking about her signing chalte chalte whilst aishwarya rai was already cast and then kicked out - that was savage!)

There is no one as articulate, intelligent and classy as this woman in bollywood. Also she has the guts to laugh at herself and look at herself objectively. The only other woman like that is Twinkle Khanna. And kudos to the film companion team for trying to push bollywood interviews and content out of the gossip, scandals and conjecture mode. Respect.

Everytime I see Ms Balan, she reminds me of Vidya Sinha, one of the best yesteryear actors of her time and co-in, Ms Balan 's screen name in Kahani 2. Vidya Sinha had her own place in movies which probably till today nobody has. Similarly, Vidya Balan has her own place in movies. Great IV !!

Vidya is incredible and it is like a duet when you two both laugh. And if Shah Rukh Khan can make you cry in 8 seconds, Vidya can make you laugh in 8 seconds and then start laughing again in another 8 seconds. And why this is this so important? Because all out loud laughter is the only thing that can do Muay Thai (martial arts) on heartbreak, sadness and anything at all bad or negative.

It's so easy falling in love with Vidya. She's brilliant without trying to be. She's glowing since her career change and I feel grateful to witness it as a fan. The enchantment that I feel with her interviews is the same one that she says she can't bring to screens in commercial movies.
