Yes definitely. That's why she was one of the greatest sopranos of all times. Beautiful.

Interesting how she swoops to the high note. Her normal approach was to make the penultimate note staccato.
@FairyForest87 Жыл бұрын
She doesn't swoop. Never did she soop.
@jondavwal137 ай бұрын
It's called portamento. There is no swoop. She has never sung a final high note staccato in her entire career. I don't think you know what staccato means.

Effortless. Classical restraint. No 'dramatic effects.'

Modern sopranos should be forced to listen to this. This is us a proper bel canto technique wuth proper breathing that supports the voice

Dear Joan. She was a great singer but she couldn't act worth a darn.
@suzannederringer16073 жыл бұрын
And how would YOU 'act' this cabaletta? It's just a simple expression of joyous anticipation.
@danawinsor13803 жыл бұрын
@@suzannederringer1607 I would have to agree. IMO, people didn't "act" arias in those days. During the 18th century, dramatic action stopped during the aria, and I think that lasted well into the 19th century, at least during the Bel Canto era.

@SymphonyBrahms: Don’t be a patronizing B**ch or P**ck and refer to her as “Dear Joan” and then insult her. No, she wasn’t a great actress but it’s a combination of singing and acting in a performance and this just an appearance. Yes, there were moments when perhaps Callas and Sills were singing actresses but not every time they opened their mouths. In fact at times it was very unpleasant. I take each opera singer for their strengths and weaknesses. Joan Sutherland doesn’t need assholes making stupid comments. She was a very effective performer in an opera onstage and in recordings which can’t always be said of the other two. Damn, some of their ‘wobbles’ were like earth tremors but the earth wasn’t moving!

@@danawinsor1380 She does exactly what the composer intended. I suspect if Bellini saw and heard her at her peak he would have been overjoyed. Some others he might have wondered what they were doing to his music by behaving that way on stage.
