Vienna is a historic yet modern city -- a living museum of monuments and memories connected to a long rich history, but also a sophisticated place with glamorous shops and cutting-edge design. It is a romantic place alive with the music of Mozart, Haydn, Strauss and Beethoven, enriched by the legacy of the immensely wealthy Hapsburg dynasty who created some of the worlds finest palaces, opera houses, museums, parks, fountains, public architecture and grand promenades. The Hapsburgs ruled over much of the Western world during several centuries from their huge palace, which today is one of Viennas main visitor attractions with its many museums and several concert halls.
As always in our three-day approach, we present the major tourist sights that you should not miss, then point you to the little back alleys and minor attractions where you can get away from the tourist mobs and discover the real heart and soul of the city. Wandering in the little quiet lanes can be a profoundly moving experience -- if you pick the right places and dont just randomly get lost in some boring streets, so come along with us as we show you the best routes for making the most of your time

Quality of life in Vienna is at or near the top of most world rankings, making it a wonderful place to live and also to visit -- you should stay at least three days.

It happens to all if we're lucky, getting old. That's why my tour biz is winding down - my loyal customers are getting too old for that, but really, with a decent suitcase you can walk a mile to your hotel -- I'm still doing it, with all my camera gear too!

tough question...so many great places. OK, how about those little lanes just west of Kartnerstrasse, Schonelantergasse to Balgasse, at twilight; or outside Karlskirche at twilight; and just walking along Graben and Kohlmarkt any time, and of course the fine art museum, Kunsthistorischeshaus, looking at Vermeer. Vienna is superb in every way. No accident the Austrian economy is weathering the storm better than elsewhere...

I once heard that Vienna is the best European city because it's like Paris without the French people.

with some skyscrapers) some "real" vienna: just walk around the 16th district (especially at "brunnenmarkt", a very cool market place) or naschmarkt ( a more fancy market in the 6th/5th district with specialities from all over the world) or walk around the 20th, 17th, 21th, 12th district: traditional working class districts with a high population (some areas can be dangnerous at nighttime there, watch out.. but not as dagnerous as LA for example so dont worry too much..)

than you should check out some of the "christkindlmarkts" tradiotional marktes all over the city which only are there around christmas time... the most famous one are in front of schloss schöbrunnd and the one in front of the city hall in the 1st district at the "rathaus"

8:08 You walked past the Griechenbeisl and didn't mention the strange figure in a hole in the floor there? It's called "Lieber Augustin" and is very famous urban legend. 11:20 That place is called "Freyung" and not "Am Hof". So you did a great job in going through the first district of Vienna avoiding all the main attractions like Stephansdom, Votivkirche, Hofburg, city hall, parlament, opera house, Burgtheather, Museumsquartier, Maria am Gestade - and these are just the attractions you could have seen within 5min of where you had been.

Thanks for your comments, very entertaining. I do have other movies about Vienna which cover some of those places you mention. On my tour we do stay for 3 days, so during my 7 previous visits I have a a good chance to see this wonderful city, but have not yet edited all the material. Now I am going back again in a few months to shoot more, looking for anything I missed in your helpful list, thanks.
