Vientiane Vision 2030

There is a great vision here which needs to ensure that the service areas, the factory corridors and the transport connections between them, all come to fruition. The time to plan and to recognise the opportunity is NOW. Vientiane is one of the nicest capital cities in Asia because of its 'boutique' size and scale - it is important to keep that feeling. There is another important step - identify NOW what should be kept as a 'heritage precinct'. There is 2-3 story french era preservation to do.

Vientiane needs to be a green city once again. My first visit back in early 2010 saw a lot of desolate city scape. I actually fell into a man-hole sewer at night in the city scraping my shins because I wasn't looking where I was walking & didn't see it. I'm interested in investing for the future development & improvement for Laos, but in time hopefully we can promote the countrys eco-treks, traditions & national diversity.

Thai,Lao,Vietnamese,Cambodia,Chinese,Japanese,and Korean friends all of us play poker,drink beer,and bbq over the weekend @ a birthday party. All of us have something unique to bring to the table as people and culture. Its 2012 and if you still have not hang out or make friend other than "your people" then you r missing out. Every country should strive to do better and Laos is no exception,beside don't you want to see your friend(all cultures) do better in life?

Should this 'vision' actually happen, then the character and charm of the city would be lost, which would be a great loss for all, visitor & resident alike. Improvements to the city's infrastructure is the main priority, followed by careful planning. Wholesale beautification of the city is a dream of someonbe sitting in an office with a draft board and computer. Plus this 'vision' would be very costly - who is supposed to pay?

Take your point, but by providing a balance of things to see and do, colonial history, Lao history, forests, wildlife and attractions and good transport Laos will be the richer for it. Dismissing the French influence is short sighted ... form a visitor perspective there is much to celebrate in ALL things Lao; have just been in Vientiane for a week and was pleased to see the new green buses from the Govt of JP; there is much work to do in improving transport.

You would have to spend billions of dollars to renovate the Capital city to the way you've dream of, and more importantly you have to honestly open the door to foreign trades and businesses relocation from foreign countries to your country so you will be able to earn extra cash from company taxes, otherwise, you will only dream. I would ask that Lao should invest in education and their children instead of the cities. Once these children become well educated, they will have the knowledge to bring this dream to reality. Let say - if Lao can bring this dream come true and did not invest in education nor their children, these future children will not have the knowledge, the moral and the integrity to keep this dream nor to expand for the benefit of the Lao people. For example, in America, in the ghetto, children and parents are less educated that's why their cities turn into ghetto. In suburban, children and parents are more educated, they had better and cleaner environment.

Because I love &care of my birthplace; 1st. need a better & more efficient public transit system, 100% electric buses & trains, not fossil fuel vehicles. 2nd. CO2 reduction programs, we lao should lead the world, by phasing out fossil fuel vehicles; Arabs have more gas, we lao have more of electricity.
