In this video we are going to look at the camouflage effectiveness of the Vietnam era Duck Hunter "Beo Gam" camouflage pattern that was primarily used by U.S. military advisors in the early years of the Vietnam war.
We will be looking at these uniforms in a woodland environment during the early fall season (North Texas woods). This video will consist of numerous scenes where each will begin with a concealed stationary position (both with & without the use of vegetation), followed by a movement phase out of the initial position. The purpose of this video is to give the viewer a chance to see the individual camouflage pattern and how it looks and blends into this environment. There will be varying degrees of how much of the uniform will be exposed to the viewer. Some scenes will only expose little more than perhaps a hat, while other scenes will have virtually no vegetation covering.
BIG THANKS to my buddy Bruce for helping to film this video. Please check out his channel and support him by subscribing to him, thanks! / @brucecamparmament3728

In the 70s my mom had a bolt of cloth in duck hunter. She made me my own set of fatigues out of it to play Army in. Proven effective during countless backyard adventures with plastic army men and as we got older BB gun wars. 👍

In the scene at 11:20 I noticed your black boots, which led to seeing the rest of you. Great example of camo effectiveness, and how black guns and gear give away location so easily. Sometimes black blends into a shadow, sometimes it stands out, like your eyes are drawn to a void in the scenery.

Those old WWII USMC camos in this pattern were reversable: green camo on one side, brown on the reverse. Oftentimes, missions would change 3-4 times a day requiring them to reverse & re-reverse depending on terrain, etc... Led to the following oft shouted rhyme: "Green side out, brown side out, Run in circles, scream and shout!" Great vid, as usual.

Ironically, I'd just seen a video over on Paul Harrel's channel wrt how hunting "fashion" has gone thru a cycle over the past couple of generations, and it featured the "duck hunter" camo pattern which I'd never seen before. Now here you are, showing how very effective indeed this old pattern can be, performing right up there with some of the most modern motifs I've seen you display on your channel [which I really appreciate, btw: so glad you took it upon yourself to offer this service! Nothing like seeing for yourself what the stencils look like IRL...]

Awesome vid, totally digging the M1 carbines and M1 Garand and early web gear. Recall reading about this early phase of the VN war in National Geographic with great photos of SF advisors and RVN RF-PF fighters in those issues. Multi-person vids with opfor sims totally rock. Really demos the camo effectiveness. Learned a lot watching this vid. Bravo Zulu on this effort. Got my Colt XM-177 out and was in the zone with y’all.

Awesome video, your right that pattern has been around for decades, it was seen everywhere even the GI Joe toys were sold sporting that camo pattern back in the 60's. I personally think it's still a very effective pattern, I wonder though if its conception was based on a cheetahs natural dotted color pattern. Anyway however it came to be, I like it. 👍

U.S. involvement in Indochina began in 1955, if I recall my history correctly. It's been awhile. It's funny you mentioned the older 'Frog' pattern and how it had 'isolated' use in the European theatre in WW2, it reminded me about some stuff I read about how it caused some 'friendly fire' confusion as other Allied troops confused it for some of the German dappled camo. Another very informative video, thanks guys for all the trouble you go through to make these. 👍

Yes, the spots power, is so cool, if you additionally use a patch of camouflage and its outlines disappear, you are one with the environment. ! Or you can spread your clothes with mud, you are one with the environment. !

Looks a lot like the raider camouflage pattern which was issued to the French following the war by the USA. Apparently it was darker on one side and had a pink hue on the other. Very similar to the current Australian camp still in service today.

Brent's camo had just a little too much yellow tint to it and was the one I picked out the most. But, they were all remarkably effective. (I'd love to see a similar demo of this stuff in the desert southwest). I'd bet it would be much more effective than one might suppose.

Not gonna lie, I always thought this camo looked butt ugly, but I cant deny how good it worked in shadow and light.

Its actually not as bad I thought it would be. I would like you to try the old Denison jump smock from WW2. I haven't seen all your videos yet, so not sure if you tried it or not.

The US used a variation of this pattern in the European theater during WW2 but it was withdrawn to avoid confusion on the battlefield once the Germans were using camo.
