Dear Sarah, Simon, Julie, Gert and all the Vietnamese people who try; thank you so much for your efforts, it is not wasted. Annamiticus lives in our hearts and poachers never will. They cannot but hide from us. Protection, publication will save many others. My compliments to you all, Arjan/Help Anna

There hasn't been a Javan Rhino in captivity since 1907. Unfortunately, efforts to breed endangered species in captivity offer mixed results. There are examples such as the California condor, which proved successful, but critically endangered species like the South China Tiger are exploited by some people who seek to breed them in farms for a profit. Inbreeding of captive animals is another problem, and often the state of their natural habitat is diminishing so release won't ensure survival.

@thebrantacanadenis1x You make an very good point. I heard you would need 50 animals for genetic diversity, so if I were them i would of took them to the places with high numbers of rhinos and rare or none poaching activity. Also I am Vietnamese and i approve of the second message .

Sarah Brooke is a fantastic researcher. If not for her this species wouldn't even be known. And let it be known. I will not forget the Vietnamese rhino.

The exotic animal hunting started since the European countries invaded Southeast Asian countries. Never blame the local, they try so hard to keep the ecosystem being nature.

I didn't think the Vietnamese Rhinos would survive, even if they beat the poachers there was still too few and inbreeding would get them instead. At least the Javan Rhinos in Java have a stable and maybe even growing population. Oh ya, the guys who are all hating the Vietnamese and China and whatever, stop it. There can be assholes anywhere. You know it was also the Vietnamese who outlawed rhino poaching and it was also the Vietnamese who supported rhino research till the end.

The 2010 carcass should be used to genetically engineer the Vietnamese rhino back into existence. I trust the bones were frozen.

Its both habitat loss and poaching what drives rhinos into extinction. But poaching of both elefants and rhino is getting more and more a problem. And they have even stolen rhinohorns from museums in Europe for example. And that has to do with the growing demand in China because more people and more people have the money to buy ivory and rhinohorn.

Don't I understand how can a amazing animals horn prove to be medicinal?? Really disheartning to see the rhinos getting killed for something which is precious to them... Don't know when will humans start to love and respect animals... And stop hunting them! Please humans stop hunting animals please....

Back when they were held in captivity, they died young and never bred. But that was over one hundred years ago, and now it feels almost like it would be worth the risk, just to protect them from poachers and breed them in a controlled environment. (Anyone knows why rhinos in general breed so poorly in captivity?)

Truly sad to know how cruel some people are when it comes to very unique creatures, all for money, no animal is safe living in the wild, the poacher are going to kill all of them, it will take time for poacher to make all targeted species extinct, one by one, poacher don't care about the Uniqueness of Creatures Trying To LIVE in their homelands. Thank you for the video & all your efforts to help animals, MAYBE Day MORE PEOPLE will come to Aid Those In Need. "YOURTH OF THE WORLD WAKE UP& LOOK ?!"
