My Viet dad spent his youth in fighting Polpot and liberating Vietnam. During the time when he fought Polpot, he was shot in his throat and until now more than 40 years after the war, everytime the weather changes, his throat hurts and seeing him like that hurts me as well. My dad really loves Cambodia but seeing videos of some Cambodians blaming Vietnam for invading their country while the fact that we came to help them hurts him so much....

Both countries was starving and there was no penicillin in Vietnam after the war. People dug up buried American canned food. A starving country has to help another starving country. The U.S. and China signed treaty and left South Vietnam to fall. Then the U.S. shared intel with the Chinese to help them invade Vietnam after the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia to fight Pol Pot regime.

Some facts you may not know Pol Pot has survived so long thanks to support from China, the US and even Thailand. China has a conspiracy to try to please the US for economic development, weakening Vietnam so that China has a strong position in the region. China can also strengthen domestic stability through an external war. The US has been hostile to Vietnam since before. After 30 years of fighting the French to chase the US invasion. The Vietnamese people once again faced the enemy with two heads. Unrelenting pain, unrelenting loss was forced to rush into the war for the Cambodian people and for Vietnam itself. The war with Pol Pot and China lasted until 1984. It dragged back many more years of Vietnam's economic development. However, in addition to a number of brother countries such as Cuba, the Soviet Union, Sweden, Iraq, ... the US and the world support crimes and at the same time embargo Vietnam. Dude, Vietnam is one of the countries I personally respect. The Vietnamese are very resilient people who defeated bigger countries with more advanced technology like the Mongol Empire, France, the US and China. Pol Pot seriously thought he could easily exterminate the battle-hardened, war experienced Vietnamese population with his starving army only trained how to kill unarmed, defenseless slaves. Well, it only took 2 weeks until he was chased away from power. It's quite unfair how most countries still supported the Khmer Rouge after stopping a genocide, even though Vietnam stopped Pol Pot's Year Zero (which means destroying all of Cambodia's culture & institutions), something which might have permanently destroyed Cambodia. However, Vietnam then also kicked China's ass for their failed attempt to restore the Khmer Rouge. Massive respect to Vietnam from Austria. 🇻🇳💪

I agree. I m Australian and I respect Vietnamese people too. Even many USA and Australian soldiers conscripted to fight in Vietnam don't hate Vietnam at all, at least not now. They just wish war would never have occurred there in the first place. As for Khmer Rouge, Cambodia is very very lucky that Vietnam chose to invade Cambodia after several massacres carried out by KR just over the border in Vietnam. Cambodians were so close to going out. As an American, I've just been reading about Pol Pot and this conflict today. When I saw the US on the "Allied" side with Pol Pot on Wikipedia, it made me feel sick. That's right there with supporting Osama bin Laden against the Soviets, on the list of despicable US power plays. Thank goodness Vietnam managed to erase the Khmer Rouge regardless (and then held off Mao's China too!) and come out on top. So even though I can't do anything about my runaway government, at least I can extend my apology for everything Vietnam has been put through, and my profound admiration for all it has withstood. If alien space ships ever come to try and conquer Earth, they'll never take Vietnam.

Google something called the Ba Chúc massacre, A massacre of Vietnemese civilians by the Khmer Rouge, I think that gave them PLENTY of good reason to fight back. Pol Pot was supported by Communist Vietnam (during his rise) and the USA, both of which had more military presence in Cambodia than China did, so their actions were ironically more responsible for any primitivist self-destruction (obviously anti-communist if true) they've written happening there. I used to participate in protecting the Cambodian people. Currently, there are still many old friends in Cambodia. Cambodian people they are honest and lovely. I have always loved them. Younger generations later are oriented by the West and China, so they don't understand history correctly, I hope Cambodians will always consider Vietnam as a Brother. We always consider Laos and Cambodia as our Brothers.

Younger generations of cambodian are brainwashed by nationalists who want's power and money. They just want to spread false information so that cambodian would believe and support them to topple the Hun Sen's government so they can be elected to government's posts and make their party powerful to be able to create a new governement. Nationalists incited violence and hatred towards vietnam, thailand, and laos. They want to bring back the khmer empire when this empire occupied almost all of thailand and most of lao and a few provinces in southernmost of vietnam.

Indonesian here. No matter what hates still persist today among Cambodian and Vietnamese, they should move on to have a good relationship each other. And from my perspective as Indonesian, It was a gift from God that He had send you the Vietnamese soldier to crush Pol Pot soldier. Yes, Vietnam was not perfect but what do you expect from a war situation?? War always bad but Vietnamese troops is better than Pol Pot regime. My family arrived in the US in the 80s. A friend of Mines father said that he was in one of the khmer Rouges labor camps and had been shot down and left to die in a rice paddy. The vietnamese liberated the camp and saved him

Not at all, the soviet liberation of Berlin was not a imperialist invasion financed by the fascist Brezhnevite Soviet Union. Mao knew well the character of the Brezhnev regime and called them “hitler fascists”. The Vietnamese restored the Cambodian monarchy and crushed any attempt by Kampuchea to establish new democracy. This was a invasion by the Vietnamese against the Kampuchean people

@@astralcat46 The Cambodian monarchy was actually restored under the support of USA and China in 1991 as they both refused to recognised the Vietnam-supported People's Republic of Kampuchea (1979-1991). China also allied with the imperialist USA to undermine USSR which eventually led to its collapse and restoration of capitalism.

The Khmer Rouge launched multiple skirmished into Vietnam. Vietnam then responded by launching the 1978-1979 campaign. It was a rightful act to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty. All else was byproducts. The debate between “invasion” vs “liberation” is trivial
