The Sarasota Police Department is releasing the body-worn camera videos from the five officers involved in Monday's officer-involved shooting. VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED. All five officers are on administrative leave, which is policy for any officer-involved shooting. This incident remains under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The Sarasota Police Department engaged in an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 7:50 Monday morning near the intersection of U.S. 41 and University Parkway in the City of Sarasota.
One of our officers initiated a traffic stop on 34-year-old William Pickett's vehicle, as he had an active warrant out of Sarasota County. In the process of trying to get the Pickett into custody, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Pickett is deceased.
Several agencies assisted the Sarasota Police Department today, including the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Fire Rescue, New College Police, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport Police, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
The public is not in danger. Any law enforcement officer who could possibly be involved has been placed on administrative leave, which is our policy for any officer-involved shooting.
No further comment can be provided by our agency at this time. FDLE is taking over the investigation. Any further questions need to be directed to their office.

#5 may have inadvertently started the volley of shots by an accidental discharge. It appears that it was his weapon that fired the first shot. I saw no signs of any officer flinching, dodging, or tensing up in any way until officer #5 fired his weapon, This indicates to me that none of the officers including officer number five shown body movements that normally manifest if someone may be reacting to sudden escalation of a perceived threat.

@Sarasota Police Department Officer #5 is CLEARLY the veteran officer here or just simply the smartest. Every move executed exceptionally well. Giving proper orders, looking out for the safety of his colleagues, sends volley of fire and then moves from concealment to a better vantage point to reassess the situation. A++ for him. BUT OFFICER #4 needs to be sent back to the Academy again! Failing to initiate Code 3 lights and sirens while joining a pursuit, that’s one thing, slap on the wrist. But standing out in the open, not behind any concealment puts every other officer at risk because if he gets shot, someone needs to pull him to cover and render aid, tourniquet or clot powder the wound. That puts the officer rendering aid in the hot zone. BUT THE WORST THING OF ALL he’s clearly fatally flagging two of his colleagues, the slightest recoil or jerk or movement from ANY of the officers and now there’s a dead or mortally wounded officer.

It seems for safety purposes the police officer driving should have wireless headset to talk since he's driving with one hand most of time and preoccupied with walkie talkie. Seems police dept should address this safety issue.

I was thinking the same. Here in Germany there are always two Cops in a car, one driving and the other one operates the radio and everything else. My husband is a German policeman and he says no way would it be safe driving and operating everything else by yourself, that's putting other innocent lives at risk
