Y'know, I wasn't sure about it at first, but Cover asking fans to turn off voice chat when playing with holomems is not _just_ a good thing for the privacy and comfort of everyone involved, it's also _super_ conducive to physical comedy. There's so much more character in the way folks express themselves when they're limited to just head movements. Thinking on it, that's probably why I play as mute/near-mute characters in D&D so often... when I'm not being forever-DM, anyways. I actually made a pidgin sign-language for one of my characters, which was fun to teach to everyone else nonverbally. I gave pointers (ha, pun not intended) on the basics of ASL (which it was based on) verbally after the first session, but I never explained any new signs out loud, I'd just point at an object when it came up and signed it. Beyond that they just had to figure it out. If there was massive confusion I'd clarify after session, but that only happened... twice, if I remember correctly. The sign for goblin was a compound-sign from ASL, translating to "little green man" which I thought was quite funny.
