Hey Shawn, you're right, 19:00 Eric Haney, in his book "Inside Delta Force" and the TV show, "The Unit" he mentions that tier 1 SF operators are usually oldest, with a sense of protecting the younger children and/or abused as children so they are able to take the abuse that selection brings. Your last guest is a prime example of this (abuse).

The way Saddam Hussein was executed, I always felt the Iraqi people never truly gotten justice for Saddam's brutal reign. It was strange how Saddam was executed on the Islamic Holiday of Eid al-Adha. (*when reading up on this holiday, it made me go huh.) It was also strange how he was executed removed from public eye in a dark below-ground execution chamber. And, when that cell footage leaked of the execution, it felt very occultic/ritualistic.

I am retired active duty Army Chaplain (LTC). I served as an enlisted Marine between high school and college.I served tours in Iraq with combat arms units. I have dealt with my own issues as well as ministered to others who have been touched by war. My favorite episodes are those where veterans share their sacred stories. Shawn provides them a healing platform. I also appreciated the focus in secondary PTS. People thank me for my service but my family also was affected by 21 years of service during a time of war, 4 years of separation, multiple moves and not knowing if I would come home alive. Thank you Shawn for what you do.

Was also the lead instructor for the army special forces sniper course among other things. Now he’s with Glover running courses for Fieldcraft Survival. He has some great stories to share for the future warriors out there.

My father is a Vietnam veteran. He is a marine. I expressed my desire to follow in his footsteps as I was graduating high school in 2002 and he begged me not to. He has shared some very detailed and mind bending stories from his service. I still think at times I regret not going in but I look at my son and I'm glad I didn't.

My dad was a Marine in Vietnam and I tried to join the marines.. my dad told the recruiter to GTFO when he stopped by. I joined the Navy.. but the switched my MOS to Corpsman and added a year to my enlistment when I got to boot camp. My dad was not happy. I served in the 90’s and got out. 9-11 happened and I wanted to reenlist.. my dad tried to talk me out of it and I didn’t listen. I was in the Army this time.. I got back from my first tour in Iraq and my dad said to me”hat look on you face right now is why I never wanted you to join”

I missed my calling to join and I have some regrets about it and now I don't think that's a problem for you.

My dad was also a Vietnam combat vet, Army though. He did two tours with a helicopter assault company stationed at Marble Mountain Airbase in Da Nang. He was an M-60 sidegunner on a Chinook, and after Nam he spent pretty much his entire life in the army as an NCO. Most of my young childhood he was a drill sergeant, that became his passion. That was "fun" lol, taught me how to be respectful though. Eventually his rank got too high to wear the hat, but he kept going. He lived and breathed Army. When he died suddenly in the early 2000s he was still serving as an E-9 CSM. I idolized him (and also feared him when I was a kid lol). He was a great man, tough as nails, very respectable. Moral and dependable to a fault. But he also had PTSD, he could fly into these rages if provoked, to the point his eyes would go black. Scary as hell, he was not a small man either. He said the same thing as your dad did. I used to want to be an infrantyman, or maybe artillery, I was obsessed with becoming a decorated combat vet like my dad. He never ever encouraged me to do that lol, he told me to avoid the service and go to college. Get educated and then go the OCS route if I was truly deadset on the Army. Young and dumb, I used to think his advice was so lame, don't go enlisted? Avoid combat? In the MILITARY? WTF? My life took a different path and I never served. Now that I am older and somewhat wiser, I wish he was alive so I could thank him. He really was just trying to look out for me, because he knew things I didn't. Your dad obviously really cares about you, cherish him please.

Great video Shawn and great overall work. I just turned 70 a few weeks ago but I am still young at mind. This interview was particularly interesting for me because I served with the 82nd a very, very long time ago, 1973 to 1976. My time there changed my life for the better because of two people, my squad leader, an E-6 who served in Vietnam with the 173d Airborne Brigade and my platoon leader an E-7, SFC who was a Green Beret and served multiple tours in Vietnam. They put me on a path of maturity and college education that eventually led me to become an FBI for 25 years. I owe so much to them. You do great work Shawn, so thank you for what you do!! AATW!!!

Hey Shawn. Love your interviews. As someone who was just diagnosed with somewhat advanced heart failure at 52, I want to encourage you to at the very least, get an Echo Cardiogram. Basically an ultrasound of the heart, it gives the best initial idea as to whether you need more testing or if everything is ok. Things like Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy can go undiagnosed, as they have very few symptoms. Take the "message from the Universe" in interviewing Chris and get checked out. Can't wait for round 2 and look forward to many more years of enjoying you and your guests stories. God Bless and thank you from Canada.

Got transferred to the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and had 3 stints put in on the 24th and was home on the 25th. Watched this awhile back and had the utmost respect for Chris, but lost it all last week. At SHOT show, an amputee veteran by the name of Devin Jones was physically assaulted and called a communist and racial epithets for no apparent reason by a man named JOEY GOODLOE. Chris was with Joey at the time, and urged Devin to suck it up and let it slide, and apparently made it known to others there that they would be bad "teammates" if it wasn't swept under the rug. I have all the respect in the world for our veterans and warriors. People like Joey and Chris shit on the legacy of the giants that walked before them.

Would like to point something out in your Patron add. You mentioned that you make people familiar with different rifles and pistols, but never anything about shotguns. Especially for women in a home defense situation, a 4/10 or a .45-4/10, or a short barrel 20 gauge with a youth length stock are some of the best options on the market. Personally I’m partial to the old Ithaca Featherlight 12 gauge I inherited from grandpa. In a strategic and tactical situation I’m definitely not going to miss, even in low light, and I don’t even have to aim particularly well to be as accurate as I need to be at less than 15 feet. In my opinion, for women, some form of shotgun round is often the best home defense option. Also shotguns tend to be really really simple to teach new people to use. There also isn’t a ton of difference between semi auto and pump platforms, at least in how they load and where the safety is and how it is handled.

Keep it up, brother! Love these interviews! Love the perspectives you get on here. I did one tour in Iraq 09-10 doing convoy security. These folks you get here are some real pipe hitters, though.

Bro I just heard a commercial for your show on the radio! It has a bit of this episode in it, which I listened to a week or so ago. It's awesome how far you've come! I still remember your early story time episodes when you were first starting your channel.

Calling Him “the universe” would be like if I called an artist “the starry night” or called Shawn “the podcast”. It’s a cop out to refer to a creator by their creation as if that’s all they are.

Oh Snap! I can't believe you were in Kuwait for Operation Intrinsic Action! I was there as a young Sergeant M1A1 Gunner for my CO for our Tank Company (1st CAV DIV). Totally as you described it- building everything out there in the desert. We would roll up to the Berm at the border every so often. Great interview.

If I’m not mistaken at 1:51:00 he’s talking about “Kevin Holland”. That would be another good interview no doubt about it. Anyways Thanks Shawn for all that you do!

The amount of selections and the length of the path to actually be operational in Delta is insane. In general you got to make it through Green Berets or Ranger selection first, then training, then make sure to be picked and become operational and get some experience. That's already insane, like these dudes are beasts. Then you got to go through delta selection and drag your ass through hardships all over again, and even heavier from what I understand. Then you'll take part in the most intense training program like ever and make sure you make it through..... And then after all that you have to make sure you get picked in one of the squadrons ffs. And then...... you get operational and realize you still have to learn a lot. Like goddamn.

Looking at this guy i would think he's a computer programmer - knowing he's one of the most dangerous warriors to ever live is something I can't fully wrap my head around. The (very few) deltas that I've met are mostly like him.

Shawn you are the only guy I would actually don't hate on when you pause to promote for your paid sponsors. You deserve it man. Since you got Vansant on he must know Tom Satterly. Get him on next Shawn!!!!!! I will sign up to become a patron the day I see that interview! Thank you Chris, for saying and speaking the truth. I met of the some greatest people in the army and also some of the biggest POS in my life. making me wonder how the hell they they become an NCO or have a leadership position. I think i was more culture shock in basic than Iraaq. Shawn you the only dude to ask all the right questions on how Delta operators or a jist of their selection process. Respect.
