I am moved by this man's words. Have long been fascinated by the love and commitment of the Vietnamese people in their noble fight for their own sovereignty against the brutal and oppressive colonizers throughout their history. Historian Vijay Prashad's esteem for Uncle Ho and his people resonates and touches me deeply. Always grateful Mitch for your excellent interviews.

I too am moved. Mr. Prashad is incredibly eloquent. "A revolution doesn't just take place." This interview inspires me to question my level of comfort vs. sacrifice. Thank you

My favourite revolutionary. I like the story that he renamed himself Ho as it is a very common surname, to identify as a man of the people, and he really liked to go fishing! Sad he died before the US left Vietnam but he is fondly remembered and highly respected. such a long struggle for him and the Viet people. It is sad that in the West not many take the time to discover about him. A stunning country too and the people friendly and the hardest working I've ever known. Similar to Chinese people.

I am going to watch this entire video when I get free time. But your comment told me that this is important video. As long as his people honour his legacy, Vietnamese people don’t need validation from anyone. Honour your legacy that’s it. I can say that as an Indian. I hate when Indians look for validation. It’s definitely colonial hangover that’s keeping Indians back. Will like to know how Vietnamese brothers are dealing with wounds of colonialism.

Thank you and Mr. Prashad for this as well. I too am a big fan of Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people. I think they are the only peoples who have been able to truly liberate themselves from colonization and to be independent.

OUTSTADING - wonderful interview that brought this old man tears. I remember in the early 1960's when my father held my hand and moved me off the sidewalk to allow a white man and son the sidewalk. After they past and we got up from gutter, I look up, but sadly my father would not look down. After much protest and transformation, Latinos and Anglos share that sidewalk. Also, many from my barrio would end up in Vietnam a few years later. Over 8,000 Latinos would die there with four times more home came wounded. In 1970, many of these Veterans organized the Chicano Moratorium against the Vietnam War. Over 30,000 marched against the war back in August 29, 1970. Today, the world again is in a new Cold War. The US, wishing to keep its unipolar status, is in a contest with Russia and China - this will not bode well for the planet. Again, people from Asia, Africa and the Americas must work together toward peace and stop the madness in Europe. Thank you Letter and Politics for the interview with Prof. Vijay Prashad.

FAscinated by this interview. Good on Mitch for interviewing VIjay who is very inspirational. I once read a long biography of Ho Chi MInh - 'can't remember author sorry - but thought what an amazing man he was. He gave everything for his people and for justice. One of the greats of the 20th century but , as Vijay says, not fully appreciated.THanks again for this. Just say comment below and , yes, the commitment and courage of the Vietnamese in the struggle against two great and vicious imperial powers is just beyond belief. WHat amazing people

Thank you for this wonderful discussion. It is heartbreaking to be reminded of the destruction wrought on Vietnam (like Korea) by the brutal US Empire. It is shameful beyond understanding how they could destroy the land of an entire people.

Hochiminh had two pockets for cigarettes, Foreign on one side for friends and the other brands for...others! I know it from a close friend of Hochiminh who was also a translator. My "turns" in Vietnam...mostly Hanoi.

The (USA) United States calls it "Liberation" instead of "Invasion". That was what US call it in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and the list goes on... Why the double standard? Confused... Please enlighten. Genuine question... Instances of the United States "liberated" or overthrowing, or attempting to overthrow, a foreign government since the Second World War. I served as a medical corpsman in Vietnam. The only Vietnamese, the wounded grunts expected, were the NVA soldiers. Ho Chi Minh was the Vietnamese of what George Washington is to us. He is a great historical figure in world history. Of course, I had absolutely what was really going on when I first got there, being a clueless working class kid swept up in the vortex of the draft. But within a few months II realized what a debacle this war was for our country and would become one of the great turning points in world history. The Vietnam War turned the tide of America's delusion as the policeman to the world. And nothing has changed. Just look at the stalemate and debacle of the Ukraine War.
