It is likely that our pagan ancestors gave respects to all the pantheons equally, and the focus on just the Æsir and Vanir came about with Christianization. the Jótnar and/or Þúrs where also likely acknowledged and given blót with the same amount of respect they would give the other pantheons. This is excluding that they likley focused much more on interacting with local vættir (wights/spirits) and their ancestors in a spiritual sense. My branch of the family emigrated to Australia during the goldrush and here we have stayed ever after. Learning about 'viking' culture and history has given me a link to my antecedents. It has made me feel more connected to people who live in places far away from my own home and have different customs and experiences and it has helped me to see us all as a part of an amorphous human whole rather than disparate groups divided by language, appearance and practices. Isn't that the opposite of racism? Isn't this one of the greatest lessons the study of history has to teach us? I am proud of the people I sprung from, they were hardy and bold and their stories are magical. We should remember them.

I was stationed in the UK for 4 years and explored a lot of ancient sites and churches (and I love hunting the Black Shuck). There was one church, probably 16th or 17th century, if I am remembering correctly, and on the wooded back wall of this church someone had carved a message in Rune, and it translated (approximately) to: "Wiglaff was here" It still makes me smile when I remember it.

Thank you Bjorn for sharing your culture. The vikings were/are awesome! I once worked for the conservation corps in my state. A few times a year all the different teams would meet up in the mountains for a week. One member was of viking descent and championed their culture as a part of his day to day life. He dressed in traditional garb, his tent was traditional, he even sang old Norse songs and played old instruments, such as a hand drum and mallet. On a cold fall night in the mountains he performed a traditional song, as many of us sat around a fire. Just his voice and the drum and the winds. It was very beautiful and powerful and in that instance I was taken to the viking lands of old. I also live near a town called Poulsbo, which it's original inhabitants were of Norwegian descent. The downtown strip is fashioned like an old Norse village. Please keep sharing your culture and your insights. And for all the lame reset censor fools, go censor your own existence. What we are witnessing now are those people, who are so plugged into the Matrix, they want to only cancel everything they deem as bad and believe in what they are presented. Its why Cardi B is the woman of the year, not because she has done something inspirational. Its because of her popularity and the discussion of her songs negatively and positively. @@michaelmichael8314 1- Telling people what they are without even knowing them, is a form of hate (although, thinking about my original comment more clearly now, i did the same thing that you did by calling you jealus, and i apologice for that) 2- What are you defining as "viking"? Because we might be discussing completly different things, and we would both be wrong and right at the same time. For example, if you define a viking as someone born in Scandinavia, on the viking era, in a viking village/tribe, then you're right If it is only being born on a viking village/tribe, or simply habitating one, you would be wrong (there is one viking village, that reconstructs how a life in the viking era was like) If you define a viking as someone who follows the traditional virtues, values and general culture of the viking era, then you would also, be wrong, as there is a very large amount of people who do this. And there are many more definitions for what viking is. So, what you've said wasn't factual at the slightest, even if you think that that is the case. (Not insulting, just telling the truth) 3- Thanks for the quick response
@michaelmichael83144 жыл бұрын
@Eric Sundquist You're not viking. You are scandinavian just like myself (the vikings that earned glory for conquests all died and settled in the british isles). Also don't be disingenuous when you say that 'we can go viking' when needs be. Scandinavian countries are literally the most pussy whipped countries in the world right now, just look at the governments. Your ancestors would be ashamed. Also, you wouldn't like most of your ancestors from that time and for good reason. Bones of vikings have been analyzed and swedish people are a 10% match, people from britain are a 6% match. Do you know what that means my fellow scandinavian cousin? It means that genetic drift has occured between then and now (hence the native population from the viking era and the native population from today aren't even all that related, and it also shows that british people have almost the same amount of viking ancestors as we do. There's two things I hate, and it's when people try to act tough (such as your comment about how we can go viking', which is an expression I've never in my life heard despite being more connected to scandinavia than you are) and when people try to rewrite history

We were taught that the names of the days of the week came from that culture. It’s very important! And to those who say there was no Viking culture, I have one question. My husband had his DNA analyzed, and it was noted that he has a small percentage of Viking blood(He’s mostly Celt, if you’re curious at all, lol). I just discovered you! I am so sorry this attitude has spread so far! I had to mention that listening to you two reminded me so much of my childhood. ALL of my grandparents and most of our family friends were either from Norway or their parents were. They all spoke with the most wonderful Norwegian accent... my dad, too, since he didn't start speaking English at home until he was at least ten. My great grandpa (1855-1950) used to say "there is nothing to be proud about being a Norwegian - they were just a bunch of outlaws that got chased up north." That always made everyone laugh. Norwegians could tell jokes on themselves but no one better take them seriously! I have been looking for family history because my great grandpa's mother died when he was 5 and the people in the area treated the children badly. The way my dad's uncle remembered what his dad had said was that it was because he was Spanish, but that made no sense. I finally discovered that Spanish and Danish for him sounded a lot alike and Danish made more sense to me. His middle name was Bugge and tracing his family through his mother did go back to the Bugge's of Denmark. That question is answered.

You can see I their art the culture they were. So many people today are pointing their finger at others. But as they say, when you point your finger at someone, three fingers are pointing back at you. People who concern themselves with others business or the way they live their lives, think poorly of themselves. Some gain some power or lead something and they go on a power trip. Our history is our history and meanings change with time but that doesn't make the old meanings wrong. History has been eliminated in some schools and it should always be a main topic because it is our history. We do learn from the past but some don't want us to know our past or make it so,etching it isn't. Shame on the person who stood in your way of who you are. I do believe this is changing more each day. Changing in that people are realizing we are all a Human Family and all have wonderful cultures. I'm with you. The world has gone mad. Us Scots are finally getting our identity back. Our language was banned by the English and our identity was nothing more than a joke you could buy in a souvenir shop. Celts, picts, vikings, we are proud nations, with a long history. We may be different peoples, but we are together in truth

I'm sorry, I'm an 'outsider', but I don't see how Sturgeon will preserve anything of your culture. While passionately hating the English, she is an EU loving globalist selling you out.

Behave yourself Jim, the big guy is into ancient parliament stuff, discussion and openminded thoughts. This world is getting too small now for divisions. Wake up my fellow Celt, we are all Bros, believe in Allah, but tie up your camel.

Ooft, I rest my case, politics, racism and rhetoric rather than truth.

But Brad Pitt and Diane Kruger played Achilles and Helen of Troy. How do Hollywood people know, that the ancient greeks were nordic european? This is stupid. Just don't take the movies seriously. They did it because both actors look very good. In reality the ancient greek people are pictured with dark, wavy hairs.

To me it's very simple. Im Native American as well. But, Vickings/Native Americans are considered an expression of a masculine energy, and many are trying to get rid of this concept... PS, please keep up your videos! I love the good work and keeping our cultures alive. Much love, from the states... Wind Wolf...
