I love the song they were singing. The camp seems to be just amazing. ^^

I love it to 😊 It is really nice to do this kind of camping with some friends. One of my favourite things in life 😊

Unless I'm very mistaken, the song is Helvegen by Wardruna, a sort of funeral song

Love how you filmed that woman with the yarn waving it out in slow-motion. That really hits in a poetic fashion. I wonder about the little clay pot you use as a shower head: how does it work? Did you make it? Can you show us? Thanks so much, from a Native (iNDigeNous) American in the States!

Hi :) Thank you! It's so amazing seeing the yarn change color, and I thought the slow-motion worked well with that :) The clay pot is a replica of a watering jug from the 12th century (so not really viking age). I'll put a link below to the ceramicist who made mine. There are a few photos there, so you will be able to see more of how it works. Basically you dip it in water, put your thumb over the hole on top, lift it up, and the vacuum will keep the water inside until you remove your thumb from the hole. krohnskrukmakeri.qbutik.se/historisk-keramik/bevattnare All the best to you :)

I'm happy that I was able to give you something to enjoy! Meeting you in person would be awesome! Perhaps it will happen in the future :) I agree on the shower-pot! (I suppose it is really made to water flowers... but definitely great for showers). All the love to you my friend!

This is truely wonderful, thank you for filming and sharing this. I'm a big fan of the fireside taglharp. What is the name of the terracotta gourd sharped shower pot you used? I would love to bring something similar on my next camp

Thank you so much! Usually we just refer to it as a watering pot. It's actually medieval and not viking. Here is a Swedish potter who makes them. krohnskrukmakeri.qbutik.se/en/historisk-keramik/bevattnare

I wonder what kind of dyes the woman at 1:50 is using to get such a vivid green? My guess is some kind yellow, maybe birch or onion, followed by woad blue, with alum as mordant.
@vikingventures38883 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry that I took so long to reply. The green colour was created by first dyeing the yarn yellow with weld, and then over dyeing with blue using woad. You are probably right about the mordant. :)

Ah no, this is nice but that song.....Helvegan by Wardruna? To me it's a sad song, something you'd sing at a funeral. It's a good song and I like it.....just doesn't fit the video. Having said that they did the song very well!
@vikingventures38887 ай бұрын
I agree that it has a bit of a sad feel to it. But my friends were singing it at the event, and I wanted some good music for the video. A bit difficult to find fitting non-copyrighted music 🙂

@@vikingventures3888 I understand, your friends sound good though. If they did an Old Norse version of Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden I would be extremely impressed! It was my favorite song when I was 18 and studying Early Medieval History. I often wondered what a Nordic version of it wold be like.... 😃
