I have heard that making more archers helps in this gamemode because people can attack your city if you are relocated in a desolate isle.Is it true?

Yes, if you relocate to the little islands you can be attacked by other teams. There are free shields when you start, and you can get more from raiding merchant ships and gathering supplies. I would say to start with the troop types that your strongest heroes work with and work from there :) Archers are always useful and great for city defence!
