Epic! I'm spending some time watching multiple videos on how to make a viking shield. Yours looks incredible. Even though I'm trying to make it look as authentic as possible so I might not wanna use screws.

+Forsaken Thank you bro 😎 😊 Yeah I used screws because it is on wall (most of his time) so it is not visible, I even planned to take off the handle but then friends cannot hold it when they visit and want to take picture with it😂😂😂 Moris
@Trailerglotzer7 жыл бұрын
Haha well if it's just for decoration I can see your point. Well mine would be used for actual fighting... With dull weapons of course XD I gotta say your video is the first one where I see two layers of planks being used. It kind of makes sense to me, because you can have the planks of the two layers crossing each other, which would prevent a weapon cutting deeper into the shield because it hits right between two planks. Also it's the first video of you that I watched and you got a new subscriber XD
@EpicWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
+Forsaken 😉 yeah, they actually used laminated shields correctly because of that: grain running in both ways which makes the shield much more resistant and durable to breaking, splitting... I don't use it for practice fight 😂😂 but I tested it, my friend was hitting it with an splitting axe (i was holding it) and it works but I would not like to be hit in shield boss region hahahah ✊ Welcome aboard bro 😎 Moris

Did vikings actually use cloth or did you do it to make design easier to paint?
@EpicWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
I personally think they did it, It gives a lot of strength to the structure and it protects against weather + paint layer. Animal glue was common and if they didn't use cloth they probably used animal hide on same purpose. When you look at the ships they built I doubt, that a shield, which was their primary tool of protection was just a crude thing made flimsy. It had to be strong, light and flexible enough to withstand the impact of enemy whacks and blows 🤘🍺 Btw, It is definitely easier to paint on fabric.. that's for sure haha 😂 Moris

Thanks for the video, complete noob here and I want to try to build a shield in a method similar way to yours. Questions: is acrylic paint a better choice than latex on that cloth layer? When you put the fabric on the shield to color it do you place it on the glue? cause the video seems like there was no glue when you placed it.
@EpicWorkshop6 жыл бұрын
+FCW 2 Yeah you glue the fabric on the shield with normal wood glue, I glued the fabric on only one side, on back is only wood :)

I've though about putting a dragon head on my 55 Sears aluminum boat. It would be fitting, since she's named Lagertha's Revenge.

Awesome video! I'm currently in the process of making my own shield (using both your video and tips from colleagues of mine) and I was wondering; why did you use screws over nails for the boss?
@EpicWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
+Stanovich That us great be sure to send me some pictures via Instagram when you make it 😊😄😍 I didn't have those nails with big heads, and also because of look, I liked idea of mushrooming the head of the brass screw to make it look like "hand made" to give it more man made look, I hope you understand 🤔 But If I ever make another one I will probably try to forge my own nails and shield boss 😄😎 Have a nice day bro 😊 Moris

Awesome video, although ideally the paint would hide the wood grain. You didn't want your opponent to know which way the wood grain runs since this makes it easier to crack the shield (even when it's double boarded). But what the heck, it just looks so epic with the grain showing :P

Really EPIC build! I was wondering if you use any special foot attachments for your sewing machine when you were sewing the leather border, if so what kind of attatchment? Great video, you have made a subscriber this day.

+Collihan93 Thank you for kind comment bro 😊 😎 I used the pedal "for power" like in a car It is standard with newer sewing machines Btw my father was sewing

Epic Workshop and what do you sleep on now? :D
@EpicWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
Hahaha Currently I am not sleeping (2.00 AM here) I have a job for Restaurant owner, I am preparing chairs for Epoxy Paint, my job is to sand old paint and repair with dowels if it is needed. There are 40 Chairs so I will have sore muscle from sanding :/ I will have new video out in 2 days probably :D I am kind of fcked up currently, my mobile phone died so now I am replying to messages on YT which is usually much easier on Creator Studio app on Mobile phone :/ I will be back making videos regularly soon!
