Hey, we WON, and EVERYTHING IS AWFUL!
Just as the Vikings fought back to .500, the Football Gods humbled Vikings fans again, coldly ripping Minnesota's divisive QB's lower body to shreds and effectively ending any hopes for a competitive season (hey, that sounds familiar...).
Welp, at least Jordan Love and the Packers look terrible? And they really do. Thank god.
But BEFORE ALL THAT, holy shit. The Vikings got out to a 24-3 lead late in the third quarter. Let's review how we got there.
The Vikings started hot, Brian Flores's defense forced a putrid Green Bay offense to the Love-led Packers to punt on its first four possessions, and only allowed a FG before half because we lined up offsides on the Packers FIRST missed attempt.
It was "only" a 10-3 halftime lead for the Vikings for a few reasons: first, Greg Joseph. I almost can't blame him, because on the Vikings' first possession, Kevin O'Connell decided to kick a field goal from 4th-and-1 from the Green Bay 24 rather than go for it. Fortune favors the brave, KEVIN! But surprise, surprise - the Vikings shook it off, and Kirk Cousins led the Vikings on a 7-play, 77-yard drive, and we got our first RUSHING touchdown of the season (from inside the opposing 10, even), as Cam Akers punched it in for his first TD as a Viking.
After halftime we BLEW DOORS. A methodical 13-play, 75-yard drive to open the third quarter ended with ANOTHER TD inside the 10, this time a two-yard TD to Hockenson, and we took a 17-3 lead. THEN another Vikings safety not named Lewis Cine got an INT, and on the next play Kirk tossed a DIME to Addison for a quick 20-yard TD-Addison's SEVENTH of the year-and a 24-3 lead.
And that, friends, was the high point of our year. Green Bay's offense finally got itself to function for a drive, and scored a TD. Minnesota responded by driving into field goal range, but as the drive stalled, Kirk came up limping after a 3rd down scramble, then Greg Joseph's FG was blocked. Things were great. GREAT.
Replays showed a telltale achilles rupture (slo-mo is gross). Jaren Hall came in, looked just as you might expect. Which is to say, not great, but Minnesota's defense held on, and the Vikings won their first two-score game since god knows when.
So yeah. 4-4.
Trade deadline is Tuesday. Might've been the last we see of Danielle Hunter in Purple. Godspeed, Skoldiers, it's Hall & Mullins SZN.
