Written when the Zeppelin crew visited Iceland, fell in love with the place and people, and were inspired by the Norse mythology to write this song as a thank you for the rapturous welcome their gracious hosts had given them.

Indeed. Iceland is the only nordic country "with midnight sun where the hot springs blow". I think that the film is made in Norway, surely not Sweden or Iceland. BTW : the writer of the saga was an Icelander (Snorri Sturluson), the manuscripts still exist.

We weren't being pompous ... We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.[6]-Robert Plant..wikipedia

Thanks for the making this. Rollo/ Rollo Ragnvaldsson is my 34th great Grandfather. It is really neat to watch and while (the show) takes a lot of liberties, it is really cool. He became the first ruler of Normandy and converted to Christianity. I go back to all the lines in England/ Scotland/ Wales, etc. and found him through William the Conqueror. :-D Great video.

I think this song and Metallica's "Seek and Destroy" plus a few Black Sabbath tunes would fit the Vikings pretty well. War Pigs, Iron Man, Black Sabbath's title song from their eponymously titled first album epitomizes the fear, terror, and foreboding a marauding, large, armed group of 10th century Viking raiders, or villagers would put into the hearts and minds of parish priests, churches, monks, remote, rural villages in England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Then their terror trip continued onto the Continent via Frankia, Germany, Moorish Spain, Italy, the Mediterranean and yes even modern-day Israel.

Yea over half my videos has been taken down due to copyrights even though I do not make a dime off them. Makes making new videos hard after three strikes the whole channel gets removed. Any future videos will be soundtracks for movies/shows to help avoid this problem. Sure wished I could play this on guitar that's an epic riff! Thanks for watching hopefully it will stay up...

+Alison Meeks Yea unfortunately this video is blocked in the U.S. Out side of using a proxy server not sure of a way to watch a blocked video in the US anyway. Outside the US users can use addon's in firefox or chrome but they don't work in the US so a proxy server is all I can think of.

Not so much physical war anymore these days. We are all at a emotional war with in ourselves and others. Any ways, this song give get strength to put up with narcissists in this world. Silence until my worth and life is endanger. Patience so others do not die , or get emotional, or physical hurt. I understand all of us is hurting from emotional, physical, or both form of abandonment. Most is are kids in adult bodies. Kids in chronic fear mode learn in childhood. Lol I can totally understand what your saying.While making this video I checked many places that listed the Lyrics.Because as you said the Lyrics deosn't seem to match with what he is singing at times.I don't even like to post Lyrics on a video as it can be a distraction.With this song I felt it was needed as its hard to tell what he is even singing about. According to the many sources I checked the Lyrics are correct to what was wrote originally by Plant.I think its more how Plant sings the song...I only respond because I had the same opinion as you and did spend some time investigating this matter before posting...
