I'm one of the many Vikings viewers who wish they had never seen 3x06 but then again it was so beautifully made I wouldn't wanna miss it. I made this video immediately after watching the episode to process my grief. This might be the fastest I ever edited a vid. I couldn't even wait for the good quality.
So many feels, so much inspiration.
I had just started to ship this ship in earnest and they give us canon and death in one episode...

Say what you will, Ragnar is a True Bro to Athelstan, how could you not love someone like Athelstan who sacrificed SOO much for ragnar, first off he saved ragnar from drowning then got crucified for him, then saved Rollo's life and acted as a Mediator between the Northmen and Saxons for the settlements. Will really miss Athelstan.

I still can't get over his death. Athelstan will be missed soo bad (cries a little :'( ). I feel Ragnar's huge pain :'( His heart is broken such as mine. The way they loved each other was truly beautiful and is very rare since they're from 2 completely different cultures and religions. For me, their relationship represents not only Love but tolerance and acceptance of differences. Ragnar was able to do what other vikings couldn't even understand. And to think that maybe, we won't see them together again is just too painful :'( (cries a little more)

Those who resort to saying this is romance have not delved past the superficial. This was more than what any romantic relationship could offer: a true friendship. Brother alongside brother, united in difference. Brotherly love, but love nonetheless...and the purest form of love that could exist. That is what Ragnar and Athelstan had together.

On the one hand I never wanted Athelstan to die, himself and Ragnar were the image of true friendship and trust, they both knew they would never ever betray each other, and that is very difficult to find in an era were power was everything and everyone wanted something else, either through lies, betrayal, killing... but on the other hand Athelstan has shown that now he believes in a different god, and the vikings can't just tolerate that. If Athelstan didn't die it would be probable that the rest of vikings would start a riot against Ragnar. Anyway, this video was very emotional, as the scene itself, I really loved it and I have strong feelings everytime I watch it, cannot wait for the next episodes...

I would also give anything to change how Michael Hirst murders Athelstan. Vikings and Ragnar are certainly changed. I pray that Athelstan will return in dreams, visions and prophecies to aid Ragnar and his family. I pray Ragnar and Athelstan will be reunited in the end. Until then I will hold them together always in my heart. We have so much more to hear them say to one another.🙏💔

Ragnar was shown in season 4 in his visions that the doors of Valhalla have closed in him and that the gods have not favored him. He has retreated away from Viking society as his experience about Aethelstan and his beliefs has changed him. The way I see it, Ragnar really wants to go to heaven and not Valhalla.
