@@krausiemousie Honestly this show is ridiculous about shield maidens, as every other woman seems to be one. Shield maidens were rare, if they existed at all. The inspiration for them comes mostly from literary sources, and the occasional Norse grave that includes weapons with a female body. Whether or not those graves indicate the body entombed was a warrior is still debated amongst archeologists. The only actual accounts we have of northern Germanic peoples having female warriors are late Roman ones, and those were rare as well. Likely, female Norse warriors followed the same pattern as most other tribal societies. Women were not principal warriors, but occasionally some from the social elite might find themselves at the head of an army of men, and put on the trappings of a warrior to legitimize their leadership. Some may have fought as well, but probably rarely, and always in the company of men who would protect them. Women as depicted in this show are far more representative of modern Western notions about women then they are of anything that existed in old Norse culture. Women can be effective warriors now because firearms have negated the advantages of size and strength inherent in men, and mechanization of modern armies negates the male advantages in carrying heavy loads for long distances at speed. TLDR; women as warriors are a feature of the modern age, and no age prior.

Who does Torvi kill?! I am a big fan of the videography; I love the show, however, the timeframe of the relationships if not the relationships alone were historically inaccurate, and I have wondered the name and significance of the extra seen in one clip rooting alongside Torvi for Frodo. Was it Halfdan's substitute? Was it Fridleif? or was it Ingjald (Ingeld or Ingjaldr?) or was it just some die-hard follower?
