Joshimath is one of the four Maths that were established by Adi Guru Sankaracharya in the 8th century. Narshingh Temple in Joshimath is the winter seat of Lord Badrinath. In winter you can have darshan of Lord Badrinath in Narshingh Temple in Joshimath. The idol in the temple is in the form of Nar & Singh which means half human and half Lion.
Adi Sankaracharya Ashram is another landmark of Joshimath. Joshimath earlier known as Jotirmath has a Kalpvriksha at the Adi Sankaracharya Ashram. It is believed to be about 2500 years old.
