There aren't enough superlatives to describe this video! You put your camera to excellent use. The footage of the 2 octopuses was INCREDIBLE. I wonder what they were communicating to each other with the color and texture changes.

hi there went here a few years ago and still dream about this place encharted island it defo is and will go back loved every min off it and we only had a inland villa which ws so nice but on the secound to last day the reception rang us and said we can stay in the water villas for our last day it was amazing really was .

Fantastic video. Of course you need a bit of luck to see two octopusses like that, but your filming is so clear and stable. You have edited the film with appropriate length of different sequences, and you let the nature speak for itself. You can be very proud over that film.

I miss Villamendoo, We were their 24 years ago, there were still no cottages on the sea that time…I’m quite sad watching now the corals fading their beauty and colours.

We share your sentiments. A return trip to the Maldives is definitely on our wish list. Unfortunately, we didn't have the chance to witness Vilamendhoo's house reef at its prime, when it was healthiest, before the El Niño phenomenon. It's heartening to know that some resorts have taken steps to cultivate coral gardens and educate visitors on responsible behavior in the water. Here's hoping for continued improvements in the health of the coral reefs. Best regards

Nevertheless, some resorts/organizations are trying to improve the situation with coral gardens, different measures and are doing their best to protect the seabed, that's encouraging. Hi, thank you very much. We found the two octopuses north-east of the reef. More specifically, if you take the Boashi Bar in Villamendhoo, make a straight line north. We also found a third one on the reef, south of the water villas.

En effet, nous avons eu énormément de chance lors de ce voyage. Il est vrai que nous avons toutefois passé beaucoup beaucoup d'heures sous l'eau pour trouver toutes ces petites merveilles et les approcher sans les effrayer. Nous avons filmé avec la GoPro HERO9 black. Pour les vidéos plus récentes, nous avons utilisé en plus de la 9, la 10 également. Hello, Thank you so much for your comment ! The choice can be quite difficult and each island has its pros and cons. We're glad you enjoyed our video and found it useful. If you are asking for the little trips we did during our stay from Vilamendhoo, we booked the 4 following excursions : - Whale Shark excursion - Vila Snorkeling Adventure - Snorkeling boat trip - Sunset "punch" cruise If you are asking how to go to the island from Male airport, here are few informations. Once we booked the holidays, the hotel send us an e-mail about the transfer and organized the roundtrip for us. The flight by seaplane lasted for approximately 25 minutes to Vilamendhoo. The price was 370 dollars per pax (roundtrip). Otherwise everything has been seen around the house reef. We hope you will enjoy this place as much as we did. Best regards and happy new year !

Amazing video! Congratulations! I am planning to visit Vila this December… Apart from the whale shark and mantas all the rest of the footage was in the house reef? Or is it necessary a boat trip? The coral is getting better since el Niño, isn’t it? I expected all dead coral but looks like it is recovering slightly… Any recommended part? And about sharks? Any part of the reef with adult ones? Or just baby? Thanks!

Hello, thank you very much for your comment and for watching the movie, we are really happy to hear that you appreciate it. We hope you will enjoy Vilamendhoo as much as we did. Apart from the whale shark, manta rays and two turtles (we saw one turtle in the house reef too), everything was seen in the house reef, without taking any boat. There is a lot to discover there. We spent a lot of time under the water, therefor we had the chance to record more species. It's not as beautiful as many years ago, but we can see an improvement. And some resorts are not only into the preservation of the corals, but even "replant" them like in Meeru which has a coral garden. It depends of the day, we found adult sharks almost everywhere around the island. Maybe a little bit more on the north side of the island. Best regards

Hello, Thank you so much for your comment ! Maybe there are some offers which include the transfer in their price, but in our case we paid for it. The hotel organized the transfer and provide informations about it in advance. It was 370 dollars per pax for round trip by seaplane. Best regards and happy new year !

Hi, we have just returned from Vilamendhoo and had a fantastic time. We booked the Ocean Discovery, full day, excursion ($400 per couple) which seeks out Manta Ray, Whale Shark and turtles and were lucky to snorkel with Whale Shark. As we were keen to see Manta and turtles we then followed up with a Manta and turtle, half day, excursion ($75 each) and were lucky to snorkel with both species. (They also run a half-day Whale Shark excursion if you miss out on seeing them on the Ocean Discovery). So we had two bites at the cherry to ensure we saw all three species. That said we had some great snorkelling viewings of turtle on the house reef.

Hello, we were really lucky with the weather, it was hot and sunny, no rain. We went there during the first week of May, so at the end of the "most recommanded" period for snorkeling.
