Our son and daughter-in-law have a Borzoi and he is the most lovable companion I have ever seen. He also knows how to "sing" like only a Borzoi can and he will let himself have all the affection you can give.

Beautiful dogs and a fantastic video. Congratulations! I am just curious; do they have a good recall? If I let my borzoi off leash, he would be gone in a second. In other words, how do you make sure they don’t get lost when off-leash?

Thank you for your kind words! Yes, they all have excellent recall, otherwise they would not be let off leash. As you can see in the video they stay pretty close and don't have any desire to run off, they prefer staying with the pack. I put a lot of effort in training a solid recall with my first dog (a Borzoi), but after that when I would get a new puppy they would just copy the older dog and learn from them, so it has been really easy to reinforce. I think they learn a lot more from each other than from me 🙃 The only time I take extra precaution and use a long lead is when they become teenagers, because all those hormones can make them do all kinds of crazy stuff they've never done before. If they manage to reach their young adulthood without incident they have earned the privilege of walking off leash. With that said, they are animals with their own instinct and impulses, so no matter how much training they have there is always a risk involved. I kind of think it's the same as driving a car, riding a horse or swimming in the ocean, it will never be 100% safe, but the more experience one has the lower the risk will be.
