This is very interesting. We have the same thing called "sangza" in northwestern China. It is a traditional snack of Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and Hui people. It's usually prepared for festivals and guests.

Wow, it looks great. I'm Mongolian but i've never seen this before cause we we bought them from the market every lunar year. For foreigners, maybe it looks dirty or out of standart but it's so fresh and delicious. I love our Mongolians. Our traditional stuffs. I was born in the Mongolia and will die in there for sure. Peace

I'm Mongolian and I've never seen this kind of boortsog before. But the thing is I left my country when I was pretty young. I've never even been to any other places than UB. The closest to huduu I've been to is Baganuur and Nalaikh. Isn't that sad? They are not that huduu either. Never got on a horse or milked a cow. Never owned deel or any other traditional clothing. In a way, I am more foreigner to Mongolia than many of the foreigners who live and work in Mongolia :(.

"Khorkhoi" (or rather Horhoi, not sure why the majority of western transcriptions use "kh" quite frankly) means worm, not snake. Snake is "Mogoi".
@ARTGER
@ARTGER 8 жыл бұрын
JimIBobIJones Actually it's "mogoi" not "horhoi"! But Mongolians not like to straight saying or calling "mogoi", because snake is worshiped/sacred animal, they respect that animal. So it mean "mogoi boortsog" but calling "horhoi boortsog"
@JimIBobIJones

As someone who has been a Mongol for 30 odd years, that's news to me. Perhaps its regional thing I am not aware of (I know that some shepherds in wolf-heavy regions say "dog" instead of "wolf" as they think saying wolf is bad luck and summon wolves) but to my knowledge there generally is no such practice. The word "mogoi" is used quite liberally, e.g. "Mogoi Zagac" (snake-fish for eel), and it is not ascribed special status.

Haha. You don’t even know trading? Isn’t it common sense. If we don’t plant it then we that means we’ve traded it. Just because we don’t plant wheat doesn’t mean that this food is originally from China. 馓子 you’re talking about is actually Uyghur Sangza, am I right? There is different type of “Heviin boov”. This is one of the different variations of it. In other parts of Mongolia we make it with different shaped. Not like this one. I advice you to search and read little bit about this.
