You can think of it as a different group. There was the original group, which broke up in 1985. Then some of the original members, sans the original lead singer, formed a new group and licensed the name and characters from 1987 through 2017. This latest is the original lead singer who won partial copyright over the songs. He formed a new group, sans original members from the second group, and licensed the characters and songs for his own group.
