Katie, please don't fret! It happens to all of us. When I was in high school, I was deathly afraid of saying "orgasm" instead of "organism" (we'd learned about both in Biology). I barely spoke during that course. Years later, I befriended a Tongan couple who assisted with elder care. I referred to them as Auntie and Uncle. Uncle was very playful, and always doing kind things for the seniors. I asked Auntie what the word was in Tongan for flirt. I just want to correct the woman who answered Babu Bhai's question at around 5:00. The pigment called melanin is what gives us the different skin tones. White people have less melanin than other people. The rest of what she said is correct, but its melanin NOT melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone which makes us feel sleepy. Great video as always! Hope you guys do more Q&As. Always looking forward to your videos.

Along with your correction regarding Melanin (thanks, saves us all typing same thing!) It would be nice if more information regarding skin pigmentation such as absorption of Vitamin D which we get through direct sunlight on bare skin, and then our bodies turn it into a hormone in our liver and depending on how much pigment, melanin, we have in our skin depends how long we must spend in the sun to make enough vitamin D at different latitude hence why people in N Europe evolved into having pale skin - anyway it is super interesting but would likely be too much for the video! I would add though, to the answer of why people with darker skin often try or wish to lighten their skin, and people with lighter skin often try or wish to darken the skin - the answer often harks back to status/class. For example someone with darker skin who works outside in manual work will become darker, so for some of these people, having paler skin was a way of showing you did not have need to work out in the sun. Historically in western countries and cultures the same pattern was seen - darker skin from sun exposure indicating working outdoors in lower income jobs with the wealthy light skinned people avoiding the sun to remain as pale a complexion as possible. However in more recent years this has kind of flipped in western countries, where being able to sit outside, go on exotic holidays, sunbathe and tan, have become a kind of wealth/status indicator, that they can afford this life of leisure.

I live in the Midwest (Indiana) and I found that 120° F in Phoenix, Arizona feels to me like 75° F in Indiana due to the low humidity in the southwest. Indiana has rediculously high humidity in summer and I'm used to it.

I love Poland, more sensible and hard to imagine a tacky above ground pool. The only pools I've seen in a private residence, anywhere in Europe have been indoors . I heard that the "ideal" skin colour comes from public perception to wealth, or certainly historical ideas. In countries like India where more people work outside, lighter skin indicates you worked an office job and so likely are more upper class. In countries like the UK where more people work inside, having a tan is an indication that you can afford to go on expensive holidays to hot countries and so are upper class. I'm not sure if people still view it the same today (as in, in terms of wealth), but the long standing perceptions still last.

Yes, a line in the viking eddas refers to that; as to how to tell a man's wealth by the weathering of their skin. That was only about their society, which was predominantly white. Those who spent their time indoors were pale, those who worked for a living had darker, more weathered skin. It never referred to race.

I think most people think the mid-point between pale and dark looks best. The "bronze" sort of look. I could be wrong though. There's also exceptions, some people look very good as pale and some as dark. But yeah as you said, some people just go and bake in the sun to show they were on vacation.

Fewer and fewer westerners are leaving home at 18. There is no law that says you must. And it depends on the country. You usually reach legal adulthood at 18, so that just means you can move out if you want to. College students usually leave at 18 to go to college.

I left to get married and go to school. Then I came back. Then I left to see if I wanted to acquire a new husband. Then I came back. I lived for over a decade in the same city as my parents and then my father died and, after my mother and I had lived apart from our respective husbands for a while, we relented and now share that home in the video. She is a daughter of US Mexican citizens and her mother's generation was the first to move out of the multigenerational household and into homes of their own, at least in her family. Her sister's son and his son live with her along with his girlfriend. Italians often do this as well. My two Italian friends live in multigenerational homes. My Romanian friend, however, refuses to let her children live with her lol She says "I come here to America and raise daughter. She is spoiled. I tell her America spoil her. Her father spoil her. I spoil grandchildren only!" 😂

"Master bedroom" just means the bedroom for the main residents. Usually it's the parents. Then you have a regular bedroom for the kids or visitors. "Master" just means "main", or "primary", it's not indicative of size or quality (although in general it will be the largest bedroom in the house). In the case there is only one bedroom, it's the "master bedroom" by default.

The answer to the question about the temperature in western countries. Lots of Western countries have seasons....cold in the winter, hot in the summer, cool in the fall and mild in the spring. Some places can have mostly hot and other can have mostly cold. Western countries do not all have the same temperature just because they are western.

Typical temperatures in my "cold" country (I live in the south of Québec, Canada) swing from 35ºC in summer to -25ºC in winter. And sometimes in spring we have wild daily variations, as if all 4 seasons were competing violently.

Just to add to / correct the "melatonin" answer about skin color. The chemical is not melatonin - melatonin helps with sleep. This is an easy mistake to make because the chemical is a very similar sounding word - melanin. So melanin is the thing that controls our skin pigment. What she said about skin color being determined by ancestors is mostly true. I will just add, 100-200+ years ago it was actually preferable to have pale skin because that implied a person was "wealthy" and did not work outside. This gradually changed over time for various social reasons that are a little complicated. But, it is true that if you went back in time a few hundred years, you would see people applied powder to their skin to appear "lighter". Incidentally the powder that people applied hundreds of years ago often caused serious long term problems because they had much less knowledge about things like lead poisoning and such things Love your show guys, really, it's great!

Yes this is a good explanation and we understood what was said at first, I’m of a darker skin, what people will call light skin not white and my forefathers were from Ireland and they were light skin to white, but by the 1400 and 1500s people were very mixed by then so imagine now. I go back that far because I can trace my family that far back and even more. But the rule of skin is that if you tan you can protect your skin more, in my opinion I think that damages your skin both ways.

I just keep feeling like I want to correct some of these answers. It is very rare for a child to get their parents permission and move out at 16. When she said there is a law, that doesn't mean that you have to do it or that it is common. There is a law that allows it, but there is no requirement to do it. I don't know one single person that got their parents to let them move out at 16 and I am 58, so I have been around for awhile.

From Poland (kinda different, as each country is) 1. average working hours? - first of all, we don't usually (!) works 7 days a week, most of the people works 5 days a week (unless your job require 24/7 survivalence like doctor or system administrator). So it's 40h a week, 8h a day (in 5 day working shift). "Fun fact" - European countries starting developing 4 days of working, but still 40h a week. But as girls said... depends, sometimes people work more or less (if it's part time job or extra hours or just type of job that "needs" 12h of work) 2. can you survive in hot country? - sure do :) we are here in Poland in moderate climate so we have 4 seasons, where winter is coldest (even -35C in coldest places and circumstances) and summer (we have it now) is hottest and we have 30-40C. But most of the time (so in fall and spring) we have around 0-10C. 3. why you're white? - woman did literally 100% correct answer (besides giving melatonin instead of eumelanin as source of changing color) note aside: that's kinda sad that for them that knowledge is SO FAR AWAY that it "takes 15-20 years" to learn, when in reality you learn this as child in first days you starting understanding mother language 4. how house looks from inside? - personal question, and I don't mean it's offensive, but vary sooo much... especially in middle Europe where we have broad history of communism and people have some kind of mindset to keeping everything and not updating stuff, so we have kinda "bad environment" of old houses. Note for guys - what girl showed up is much bigger than average household here, so "west is not equal to west" :wink: note aside: even that "old houses and interiors" are much better than they have (which you can hear from them)... so we should appreciate more what we have 5. what's your must have thing to eat in country? - depends on country, like literally even few km can make the difference, so Mexico is a good example of that. In Poland probably it'd be bread or potatoes... they literally put it everywhere 6. if and why kids leaves at 18 home? - simple answer? Independence + culture, being independent is some cultural thing, that you know how to live on your own, you can develop your life, your own family. But this also varies, as it always does.... in Europe in the more "eastern" parts, people tend to live a little longer with their parents, for example I'm 25 and I live with them, not because I don't want to move out, but because I want to make them a good looking house, so I renovate it, after that (beginning of next year) I move out, and they understand that. I don't have a girlfriend, I don't have any debts.... so I'm not rushed with this decision, it's a good place to sleep, I can travel wherever I want from here, but at the same time I pay 100% of the rent to my parents as I would normally do...

They need to understand that education is free in most western countries and compulsory, and also highly valued. We have access to libraries and other things that are less common where they are, so knowing about things like melanin is extremely common. Also, genetics is the reason for differences in appearance. One family can have people inclined to have an olive complexion, and others with pale skin, because they have inherited different genes. Genes are the building blocks of all living things. As for leaving home, it is just the culture of many western countries that as a young person becomes an adult, they then decide when they want to move out of their parent's home, and make their own homes. It is not compulsory, nor is it illegal after the age of sixteen or even younger in some places. We value independence and the ability to learn by our mistakes, and we make our own decisions as we become independent. We still love our family and see them often, unless we move away. But we keep in touch. And while we discuss things with our parents, we ultimately make our own choices in life, and there is no patriarchal or matriarchal figure who tells us what to do. The idea of having to do as we are told by our parents as adults is unacceptable. Instead, we talk things through, sometimes accepting and sometimes rejecting their advice. Independence is respected and admired.

Most western countries, not the United States. Education is only free if the childs parents are on assistance and that only applies to primary education. College isn't free and very exspensive. If a child works hard in primary school, and is good at sports then they may receive scholarships and or grants to pay for college. And it's also illegal in the 🇺🇸 for a child to not go to primary school. Parents will get their children taken away from them by the State if the child misses to much school. There's a saying in the 🇺🇸, Our children have to go to school, children in third world countries get to go to school if they are blessed.

Guys, the houses you have seen have been in California, and a bit fancier than the average house. Most houses do not have swimming pools. Kitchens tend to be a little bit smaller than those shown to you. Usually there is one large bedroom, the master bedroom for the husband and wife, and one or two smaller bedrooms for the children. Those large TV's are not expensive, about 1 week's salary. This house is in San Diego, a place with very good weather but very high house prices. A typical house there costs about what one average person would earn in about 10 years. Housing costs are much less in other places, about half that much. Regards to all.

This is correct. I fought 12 other people for the opportunity to buy this home, which was only on the market for 24 hours. It was priced a slight bit above the *current* average, which is horribly high at the moment. Most people in my neighborhood have a pool because pools were extremely popular during the time it was built. It's funny because many homes out here used to have pools but the owners filled them in as they are expensive to maintain and can cause problems if not taken care of correctly.

@George Gonzalez, I agree most houses do not have a swimming pool. The house shown is likely more affordable to upper middle income people; especially in California where the house market has alway been a lot higher than in other states. The middle and lower income people live in more modest houses. Some cannot afford to pay a mortgage so they live in rented houses or apartments. Perhaps in the future, the villagers can see the wide variety of homes that people dwell in throughout the US. Greetings from West Texas 🌞🌵🌻

Now this was about 35 years ago, but the rooming house I lived in had several tenants from Asia. They always asked about real homes. My reply was always Roseanne or Grace under fire. The reason some people lay out in the sun to get a sun tan is that tanned skin was considered a beauty standard for a while, and still is for some people. The reason it was considered a beauty standard is that it was associated with wealth, the idea being that if you had the leisure time to spend on the beach or playing tennis, you were upper-class. This is a reversal of how it was earlier in our history, when the sign of wealth was whiter skin, because it meant you didn't have to toil in the fields. The practice of tanning and "sun bathing" has declined significantly, as we've come to recognize that it's bad for your skin, can cause skin cancer, and ages your skin prematurely. People now generally try to protect themselves with shade, extra clothing, and/or sun screen (the lotion that was mentioned).

I live in Florida. It is usually in the high 90's Fahrenheit during summer but can reach over 100 degrees. Florida has high humidity too, which makes it feel like a sauna when you open your front door. Usually inside at home, schools, grocery stores, we have air conditioning but when I was growing up we did not have that. It is now normal for most people to have air conditioning but of course not all do. So, we have it easier inside housing, stores and most jobs. In the winter we may have a few cold weeks, but most of the time in the winter, we may have a cooler week or day then it goes to 60 or 70 degrees. It has gotten very cold, below freezing or freezing, here but it is very rare. I live for those days.

Sarru 's question about temperature .....I live in New Orleans, Louisiana (USA)where the heat and humidity is always high. We are surrounded by water as in the gulf of Mexico, Lake Ponchatrain and several lakes and rivers and canals, bayous, marshland which is constantly a mosquito magnet. Our temperature in Fareignheit is about 90 - 100+ and humidity is usually close to 100%. But even though its hot here we also have seen snow a few times.

Historically through and for evolutionary reasons, people closer to the equator were darker-skinned than people closer to the polar regions. There is actually a biological reason for this. The amount of sun required by populations indigenous to equatorial regions was way more than enough to cause serious damage so the pigmentation offers protection to mitigate the sun's harm. You could also argue that people in equatorial regions have adapted to thrive in an area with such harmful amounts of sun, by developing darker skin and producing adequate levels of vitamin D at much higher rates of exposure. This of course goes back millennia. People in northern regions have adapted to be more sensitive to the sun and there fore require much less sun in order to produce adequate levels of vitamin D. People in these places also tend to consume much more vitamin D rich oily fish. It's a fascinating topic really and it explains huge parts of our individual development.

In most places of the US, people work 8hrs per day, 5 days (40hrs) per week. I usually work 10-12hrs per day or 50-60hrs per week. I live in one of the colder areas in the US, Northern Minnesota. I have seen temperatures here of 103F (40C) during the summer and as low as -6oF (-51C) during the winter. Here in the US, we have many of the available climates as America is a very big country. We have humid continental, humid subtropical, marine, Mediterranean, dry Stepp, desert, subarctic, tundra & warm tropical climates. I am also of Irish & Germanic decent but, unlike the woman who replied to your question, I rarely get a sunburn and my skin becomes very dark when working outdoors even though my skin is naturally white. That being said, I dislike working in temps above 90F (32C). When a child turns 18 here in the US they will often, not always, move out of the family home to gain more independence, go to college or to join the military. Some of them do quite well and continue to live on their own. Some do not do well and end up moving back to their parents' house. Some return home to help support sick or elderly family members as well.

Lots of Americans that work 40 hours a week. Still go home and take care of farm animals, children, gardens, and their home. Some even work more than one job. My husband drives a semi truck and he works 6 days a week 60-65 hours a week. He has a schedule to follow so he gets the required amount of sleep between each day! To add some more detail about skin colour. Skin colour is different for the purpose of vitamin production and protection. Vitamin D and thiamin are essential nutrients impacted by the sun. Thiamin is destroyed by UV radiation and therefore favours darker skin. The melanin in darker skin absorbs UV and prevents it damaging thiamin (as well as DNA). By contrast, vitamin D requires UV to synthesise and favours lighter skin. The result is the spectrum of shades from the equator to the far north which find a ballance between these two opposing needs. In all ethnic groups, women typically have lighter skin as they have higher vitamin D demands in pregnancy and lactation (vitamin D is required for calcium absorption and therefore imlortant for bones, teeth and muscle function)

I rarely comment on any videos but would like to say I love this type of videos from you guys. Please have more! Also, some people have more melanin (not melatonin, that helps you sleep and melanin makes your skin darker). I moved out of my parents' house to be more independent but moved back in when my parents got elderly; I did not move out until I was about 21, so that I had a good job and could pay my bills. I live in a double-wide manufactured home with three bedrooms; it has a bigger bedroom that was my parents' that is generally called a master bedroom, but the other bedrooms are smaller. Since I live in America, we have a generally open floorplan with all rooms (kitchen, living room, and dining room) being open to each other. In some places they call it an American floorplan. The lady who showed you her house's floorplan also had an open floorplan. It is very popular here (rather than all the rooms being shut off from the others which is often called a traditional floorplan). I live in a state which has spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Autumn and winter are chillier and spring and summer are warmer. I live in West Virginia. January is the coldest month with an average temp of 1 degree Celsius. July is normally the hottest with an average temp of 23 Celsius. It can get much colder and much hotter. It rains the most in the spring, and it does snow here too in the winter. Some states here are mostly desert states who do not have cold temps (unless they have higher elevation/mountains); they're in the western states, and I live in the east. We have some mountains here and it does get colder there in the winter time and it is cooler in the summer too. One more point if you will: Most people work 40-hour work week. It includes working 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, eight hours a day. Some people have a 60-hour work week. Also in the US, this means two weeks a year for vacations (holiday). It is my understanding that those in Europe usually get at least one month for holiday.

Well they got an example of what a house in a western country can look like, but it much depends on where the house is. A house in rural USA probably looks a little different than the one we got a tour of (thanks for showing your home by the way), a house in the Netherlands will not be similar to the American home and a house in England will be different from the Dutch house and so on. I guess one can say that we often adapt the architecture and interior design depending on the surroundings and the climate.

I’m going to just stop reading the comments. This is my favorite channel and I love these guys. I was so excited for the change to talk to the guys again, but the remarks calling me an idiot and making fun of me are really hurtful. I misspoke. I know the difference between melatonin and melanin. I shouldn’t even have to post anything more than I already have, which was to say I misspoke and felt foolish, but now I feel like I have to because people are being mean. I have a neurological condition which caused me to lose and eye, makes me hallucinate, and unfortunately, makes me mess up words sometimes. It isn’t intentional and it isn’t because I’m an idiot. I take melatonin for sleep, and my brain obviously had a fart causing me to keep saying melatonin instead of melanin. I’m sorry, but I’m only sorry this happened in a video I was making for the guys because I gave them the wrong term. I shouldn’t have to apologize or defend myself to random people on the internet, calling me names, and I shouldn’t have to divulge my medical disability in order for people to understand why I said the wrong word. Simply stating that I misspoke should have been enough, but here we are. Maybe I’m being sensitive, but I deal with this in real life when I’m having a bad brain day, and that’s frustrating enough. This condition disabled me, took away my ability to drive, work, or see anything properly anymore. I’m doing my best, and this just sucks extra because this channel is a place I come to to help me cope with the anxiety of my condition, and it was a big deal for me to publicly make videos for them, knowing I look funny, and sometimes sound funny. To those who have kindly responded, thank you. Another big reason why 18-year-olds leave home in many Western cultures is because their parents want to finally have some peace, lol. While that is certainly true, it's also true that many of those same parents will miss their children terribly after they leave home, and there's a period of adjustment as they get used to a much smaller family living together. Oftentimes, the parents will then also move to a smaller house, since they don't need as much space.

Sarru: The climate in the US varies widely dependent on where you live. I live in Dallas, Texas and today, July 7th at 1:00 pm in the afternoon, it is already 96* Farenheit. The summers in Texas and most of the southern states have hot and sunny days from May until November. It also gets very cold in Dallas in late November thru March; we rarely have snow -- more prone to sleet (icy rain). And as you have seen on videos, we get tornadoes in West and North Texas March thru May, and the Gulf Coast of Texas like Houston gets hurricanes August thru November. I prefer warm weather over colder places in the US. Oh, and most importantly ..... Texas summers are surviable because EVERYthing and EVERYwhere is AIR CONDITIONED !! 🤣

There's also sometimes a difference in fair vs curly hair and how that's to do with UV blockage vs insulation

For the heat question, I think it's an individual thing, some people I know love the sun but I hate it and it makes me feel ill. However, I also believe that there are different types of heat. some countries experience humid heat which is really unpleasant whereas some countries have dry heat which is much more bearable. With regards to moving out at 18, I think this boils down to finances to be honest.. no matter how independent you want to be if you simply cannot afford to rent or purchase your own home and move out of your parent's home 18+ then you have to stay longer living with parents...maybe paying them a contribution to the household bills when you start to work until you can afford to move out into your own place. Being able to afford or even rent your own home in Britain is becoming increasingly difficult.

In the USA, many kids move out of their parent's homes at age 18 to attend college/university. After they graduate, some go back home and others do not.

The typical work week for an American is 40 hours per week and five days a week. Generally eight hours per day. I am self-employed as a real estate agent. Meaning I help people buy and sell houses. I live in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia area and the temperatures can get over 100° in the summer and about 0° in the winter. My ancestry is of Eastern European. So Poland Ukraine area. My skin is pretty light in the summer like a peachy pink color and then in the summer it gets to a deeper color light brown rose. My skin very rarely burns. The house I live in is situated on about half an acre. It is on the larger side at 4300 ft.² with four bedrooms each about 20 x 20. We have two full bathrooms meeting they have showers bathtubs toilets and sinks and then what we call a powder room in our basement. Powder room just means a toilet and a sink. We have two cats and they always stay inside the home and we have a dog who lives inside the house but likes to spend a lot of his time outside rolling in the grass or swimming in his dog pool. We are a middle class well mid or middle to higher income family. If someone wanted to buy my house they would probably pay me somewhere between 600,000 and 700,000 which is pretty high in price. That is not typical for an American unless you live in California. California home values are extremely extremely high even for a very small home. A typical house cost maybe 200- 300,000. Children are considered adults at 18. Although nowadays with the economy being not so good and everything costing so much like education food housing and so on children tend to live with their parents much longer. But generally children at 18 either go to college or start working and making their own money. The United States is a different kind of country where we have people from all kinds of cultures and national origins from all over the world that come to live here. Some of us have very white skin some of us have very dark skin. We have Indian Americans we have indigenous or Native Americans, we have people of Mexican descent Asian descent, African we have people from all over the world that live in our country but they are Americans just like everyone else. I personally love the diversity of our country and enjoy learning about different cultures and having friends of different nationalities cultures and religions. The United States is commonly called the melting pot of the world. I think the world would be very boring if we all looked the same and all had the same traditions and cultures.

I really hope that these lovely fellas don't view us as some kind of superior, advanced elite group of people. I personally believe that we in the West can learn a lot more from them than they can learn from us. Being good to one another and being at peace with oneself are two of those things which we seem to have forgotten how to do.
