A dog's look and coat are examples of the jobs they did and how humans created the breed to help humans out. Hunting, herding, working, hounds, sporting, toy are all for a purpose. Once you figure that out, it gives you a history of dogs. Even the toy group was bred for a purpose.

@@toomanyaccounts So do bulldogs and corgis. Bulldog breeding has been so focused on weight and the scrunch in their faces they have massive breathing problems. You can see it happening with pugs and Boston terriers. Bulldogs in the ring often need assistance to be examined for the judge. Corgis, I think are a different situation. There isn't a breeding detrimental to health situation, but between the 1940s and now, they are a little lower to the ground and less leggy. Their breeding has not affected the dog as far as health wise. I wouldn't own a smashed face dog, too many bred in problems.

@@rhiahlMT Some breeders think too much about achieving "breed standard" and not enough about raising dogs that are healthy and happy. I "inherited" a Boston Terrier from an elderly relative that was specifically bred to eliminate breathing problems, snoring, farting and other not-so-good traits. She's fourteen now but still very healthy and lively. At a time I had 2 pugs (one was actually a puggle, but looked like a purebred, only size XL) . Too often people let them get overweight, thinking it's cute, but that causes so many unnecessary problem for the poor dogs. If they're trim and get enough activity they're still kind of noisy breathers but healthy and long-lived. There's actually a trend now to breed "antique" pugs like the ones in old pictures, that have longer legs and narrower faces with longer muzzles. I loved watching their reactions to all the different breeds!

I dont know if anyone watched their fallout reaction, but babu mentioned he was interested in getting a dog to help him in his age. Raeen mentioned he was afraid of dogs. Not sure how accurate the translation was. But i understand in some places, dogs are not culturally popular, and in many places the only dogs are dangerous wild dogs. I think Babu would enjoy having a dog as a companion. They aren't called man's best friend for nothing. I adore my husky that i adopted, she may be husky crazy, but such a sweetheart.

I have 4 boxers, 2 chihuahuas, and a stray that adopted us who is mixed with about 8 different breeds lol dogs are awesome. They're one of the creatures on this Earth who will love you more than they love themselves. It breaks my heart when anyone is mean to them, cause they're honestly like kids. They can only learn and grow if you work with them, and too many people refuse to educate themselves about their pets breed, or even about dog's themselves. Letting them get overweight is as bad as starving them, it does just as much damage and its very painful for them. Little dogs really get it the worst, and chihuahuas, who were bred as mainly companion dogs are not "naturally" aggressive, they just get treated like toys instead of real dogs because they can't defend themselves. Ugh. So many people just shouldn't have dogs.

Of all those breeds , the only one i would not mess with is the Fila . Its a really aggressive breed, often referred to as primordial minded as its aggressive protective nature is in its dna . Breeders are known to kill puppies, not showing enough aggression as a puppy. It is nearly impossible to train out. I've had cane carsos , neapolitan mastiffs, bull mastiffs , pitbulls , chow chows , but you won't catch me ever owning a fila. I love love love boston terriers, just wonderful little companions.

They should know most of the particularly strange looking breeds are a product of generations of inbreeding. I know all "purebreds" are inbred to a degree, but we really took it too far with lots of modern pit bulls, maltese, etc. Not breeding them to make them healthier or stronger or better behaved, just for weird traits (and sometimes for aggressive personalities).

Funny how Raeen wants them all to be American dogs. Most domesticated dog breeds are from Europe and Asia, the first domesticated canines were from Africa but weren't bred by humans for specific traits until the Egyptians started breeding greyhounds for hunting small game. The ones from the Americas are newer breeds like the Labrador and Malamute and have only been around for less than a couple hundred years at most. The only canines in the Americas before pets were introduced to the indigenous people were wolves, foxes and coyotes and they weren't domesticated outside wild ones being raised from pups by humans and were basically no different than modern day Rez Dogs living in semi-wild packs among people.
@ll7868
@ll7868 Ай бұрын
In Asia they were mainly bred for their size (either very, very big or very, very small) and aesthetics, they had to look "pretty" as a symbol of status and wealth while in Europe they were mainly bred for working, their aesthetics or "prettiness" didn't matter, hence the British Bulldog. European royalty started breeding small "toy" dogs or lap dogs because Asian royalty had them and they had to jump on the trend, the British Crown is famous for Queen Elizabeth's Corgi's which are essentially tiny dwarf versions of German Shepherds first bred in Wales for herding sheep.

@@MW_Asura That's my point, all American dog breeds started out somewhere else, there are no "original" breeds from there. Sure deep dish is great but it's not really anything like it's Italian inspiration.

What about the chihuahua? It is a Mexican breed that was here before the arrival of conquistadors. In fact, it was used as a mobile food source by its people! The Northern sled dogs in Alaska and Canada were not of today's breeds and standards, but Inuit and other indigenous people bred and used the dogs from which our sled dogs were developed. Not to mention that Native American and First Nations Canadian peoples, who did not have horses, donkeys or oxen, used dogs as pack animals. What is this nonsense about no dogs before Europeans arrived?? Now if you'd said domestic cats, okay. There were NO domesticated cats AT ALL in the New World nor in Australia and New Zealand before Europeans brought theirs. But dogs were here, though breeds died out or changed with the invasions.
@ll7868
@ll7868 29 күн бұрын
@@user-ei1mu6dr4r The Inuit used dogs that originated in Mongolia and Siberia, they were domesticated in Asia before they even got here. the Chihuahua was bred from those dogs, they migrated with humans, not separately and evolved naturally adapting to their environment, they weren't bred for specific traits because they already had the traits needed through natural evolution. They may have been in North America before the Spanish but they did not originate in North America. Every single dog breed in North America originated in Europe or Asia. The breeds in North America that would be considered domesticated before Europeans arrived could be counted on one hand. On top of all that I said there were canines in North America, the Asian dogs that came with humans often bred with coyotes and wolves creating mixed breeds that really had no purpose and sometimes born with deformities and other health issues, that's where the Chihuahua comes from.

They are built for speed, to withstand cold, to chase rats, and herd cattle. There are tiny little dogs that were made just to be pets. ME? I have a chicken. It lays better eggs than a dog. Germany has many of the working war/police trained dogs. Many countries buy their guard dogs from Germany. The doberman, the german shepherd/alsatian and cousin malinoi. Rottweilers....Japan makes PRETTY dogs. You are right about climate; in Southern California, USA, it is like a desert with a beach. Many people have chihuahuas who trot around in 100F heat without too much effort. In the north states, the malamutes/huskies are popular because they tolorate cold very well. Dogs are good or bad...based on their owners and training. Pit Bulls have a bad reputation, but if they are lovingly raised they are very, very cuddly. Any dog will bite if it is abused. But Raheen and Babu, you know this.
