In this eye-opening video, we bring you the incredible reactions of villagers as they watch the intense and dangerous process of acquiring and processing Alaskan crabs for the very first time. Known for their remoteness and traditional lifestyle, these villagers are far removed from the high seas and the commercial fishing industry. Their reactions are a mix of awe, surprise, and even shock as they witness the grueling work that goes into bringing these prized crabs from the depths of the icy Alaskan waters to our tables.
The video begins with an introduction to the villagers, giving you a glimpse into their daily lives and their connection to the land. As the video progresses, we transition to the dramatic and risky world of Alaskan crab fishing. You'll see their eyes widen as they watch the fishermen brave harsh conditions, battling rough seas, and enduring freezing temperatures to haul in massive crabs. The sheer scale of the operation and the physical demands of the job leave them speechless.
But the journey doesn’t end there. The villagers also get a behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous process of cleaning, processing, and packaging the crabs. Their reactions to the intricate handling of the crabs, the technology involved, and the sheer volume of the catch are nothing short of fascinating.
Join us on this cultural exchange as we explore the villagers' perspectives and share in their newfound appreciation for the complexities of modern-day fishing. This video is not just about the process of crab fishing; it’s about bridging worlds and understanding the incredible effort that goes into harvesting one of the sea's most sought-after delicacies. Don't miss out on this unique experience!

One of my friends had worked on one of those ships near Alaska for a few seasons of Crabbing. He told me that crew on each ship catch either King Crab or Snow Crab. I asked him if it is dangerous like it was TV on Deadliest Catch? He told me, of course yes. I also ask him if he have met Sig Hanson, captain of Northwestern shown on the show. He told me yes! By the way, his name is Marcus. Normally, crab season is usually 3 months, but Marcus informed each ship can catch up to maximum load in month and a half.

its King Crab. Both the legs and body have meat in abundance. very tasty but a bit of work due to the shell which has barbs that while not sharp are unpleasant if you put your skin on them while cracking the shell. the price is about 35 dollars for a pound in a restaurant.

Working on any commercial fishing vessel, no matter the size, is no doubt a hard job that is unappreciated by many and each fisherman has to meet his quotas in a season to earn a livable wage. From what I know, those who work out on rough seas are pretty much born into family lines of fishermen and the job being their main source of income in their community. They can only afford to be aware of the dangers, whether it be shifting sands in a bay or being out in the roughest seas and swells and the risks posed by their own equipment. Then having trust among their crew and able to depend on eachother. Even with rival crews and life boat volunteers when things do go wrong.

What crab boat captains will do is radar the entire sea bottom for sea mounts and rock outcrops where crabs like to live and drop a few traps to test if there would be crab. If there is a lot of crab then they bait up most of their traps with pig feet or chum then start throwing down traps. They wait nearby for about 6 hours to let the crew rest and do any repairs on the boat, they will go back once that period is over and start hauling up traps. Yeah they work hard for hours on end too. Crab fishermen also now are hunting black cod as it was a backup income source when the pandemic hit now fish processors want black cod all the time. If there is no crab the crew hauls in the trap and stores it to more on.

Alaskan king crabs tend to go through the hands of certain captains mostly through the same captains that were on the Deadliest Catch tv show. It’s a very small community that do this because of how dangerous it is to go out to sea in typhoon conditions and beyond Arctic cold. There are sunk boats that the sea has claimed with all crew lost just from a simple wave. It’s beyond dangerous out there.

@toomanyaccounts

they have a quota system of not only the number of boats but also how much they can catch. fyi king crabs in a number of areas are an invasive species hence you want to overfish them in those regions otherwise they will wipe out all the other life. also the idea is to get the crabs alive. if they die in the cages they are worthless and tossed out. the other way to get them is to have a diver hand collect them. but you cannot do that in those waters . they also cannot feel pain like a human does or most animals.
@chancerystone4086
@chancerystone4086 Ай бұрын
@@toomanyaccounts I appreciate your information but it is naive at best and plain wrong at worst. You NEVER want to overfish, not even species humans denote as 'invasive'. History is littered with creatures humans considered nuisances and killed randomly and now they are endangered. Secondly, crabs feel pain, just like any other sensate creature. This has been fairly widely acknowledged in research. It is supremely arrogant, if very human, to suggest we are the only creatures to feel pain. And I'm sure the fishermen have quotas up the wazoo and back, as do most fishing industries, and they are all broken regularly by people who are either greedy or desperate for money. Like farmers, fishermen show precious little concern for the animals they live off. If they did, the oceans wouldn't ave been drastically overfished, would they?
@toomanyaccounts
@toomanyaccounts Ай бұрын
@@chancerystone4086 Lionfish in the carib that came from aquariums are so destructive you want to wipe them out. Rabbits, cane toads cause enormous ecological devastation in Australia and New Zealand. There are more seals than people in Greenland and unless the seals are culled the seals would wipe out the fish population. there is a reason the natives there hunted the seals including clubbing the baby ones. not only were the seals an abundant source of food the bones and furs were useful. Greenpeace has caused not only enormous ecological harm but caused various indigenous populations to lose their livelihoods and teether on the brink of extinction.
