@@norXmal Deer are very dangerous. I live in Idaho and more people get hurt by deer than other wildlife and we have wolves, bears, cougars, coyotes, bobcats as well as moose and elk. But because the deer are so plentiful, there's more chances of interaction between them and humans. I live in an itty bitty town and there is a deer herd that lives inside the city limits... they have become use to humans and some of them are very aggressive because they have lost that fear. Dogs are often a target of deer too...the deer will actually chase down a dog and try to trample them and cut them up with their sharp hooves - or if it's an antlered deer...they try to gore the dog. The parents of that little kid who was feeding the stag...they should have been reported to the child protection agency...as they were putting their child in extreme danger. Those deer were nervous...which can make them attack a smaller 'threat' as they would see the child, rather than run from it.

@@StormyPeak I have no idea how Idaho manages that, that is extremely rare in my country, honestly never heard of a case of anyone hurt by deer for that reason that it attacked it as a threat. What is rather a danger is cars colliding into passing deer, their antlers can easily pierce through the glass and kill you. Most cases they avoid humans at all cost, in well rememberence that we have firearms and actively hunt them to prevent over-population. Can't say I was ever informed of it throughout my hunting course, what was dangerous, were Moose, herds of reindeer, bears and wood grouse. Albeit I don't disagree that it can happen, it is just unknown to me, pass me a few articles, sounds like an interesting read. I agree that the parents should've been closer, incase of the worst case scenario, but child protective services seems a little extreme for me and cam usually stress the kids a lot.

That animal they thought was a hippo, that the child was patting while on the stairs is actually a stingray. The very top of it that sticks out of the water does look a bit like a hippo head. That ray was clearly used to having people feed it. Normally it would never come up to the surface like that.

It’s not just about the food. Most rays enjoy having their skin rubbed. When they realize humans will do it, they will make a surface display to attract willing hands. It was a popular exhibit at our local aquarium.

Their natural instinct to protect children transcends cultures and demographics. Even I was nervous watching the kids feeding the reindeer. The seal pulling the girl in the water freaked me out as well.

It was a Mule Deer. They are generally incredibly cautious around humans unless they grow up around people. These bucks in particular have lived their whole lives in that general area and are likely very used to people feeding them. The actual danger level here is pretty low.

Just because people chose to ignore the danger doesn't mean it isn't there. At the end of the day, those are wild animals not pets. Even domestic animals can be dangerous.
