Weaver, I'm not sure what kind of scientist you are, but perhaps you (or anyone here) can answer this question. The off-camera American who's heard explaining the the villagers what they be watching said that the photos taken by the Hubble telescope were in B&W, and so all the colors they're about to see in these photos have been added in later, based on our understanding of which gasses are present in the photographed area. So my question is, why doesn't the Hubble just take color photos to begin with?

@@Cosmo-Kramer His Cosmo if i recall correctly its a product of taking many images of the same subject, post processing and stacking the images toether. Hubble's CCD cameras don't measure the color of the incoming light directly. But the telescope does have various filters that can be applied to let in only a specific wavelength range, or color, of light. Hubble can detect light throughout the visible spectrum, plus ultraviolet and infrared light which is invisible to human eyes. The observatory will often take photos of the same object through multiple filters. Scientists can then combine the images, assigning blue light to the data that came in through the blue filter, for example, red light to the data read through the red filter and green light to the green filter, to create a comprehensive color image.

I've noticed that many if not all of the people who have been featured on this lovely channel are actually extremely intelligent and intuitive. Raeen especially strikes me as someone who has a sharp mind, he notices the small details and can connect them together to learn new things without being told the information directly. That's a talent that even people with good education often lack.

As a Theoretical Physicist, I have been studying this kind of data all my life, and I just take it for granted that everyone is aware of the beauty, complexity, and vastness of the universe. Their awe is very humbling especially as scientists, we actually know very little. Babu is, despite his age a very astute man, a very wise man, and his wonder at the pictures shown to him brought a tear to my eyes, it has made me realise how much of the knowledge we learn we scientists are no longer suprised. If only it could be explained to them the differential of the age of the universe (approx 14.3 billion years - multiplied by the expansion of the universe approx 73 Km per second per megaparsecs give a size in the order of our universe being 93 billion light-years across). The music in the background was perfect for this, reminiscent of the music composed by a musician called Vangelis for the American PBS Series for the Carl Sagen TV production 'Cosmos'.

While I understand what you mean by a right and not a privilege, I certainly feel privileged to have been born at the advent of the home PC and the internet. haha I hear you. I thought the same thing. It's not really what is meant here, though. With languages like that, in regions like that, that's just how they talk. (It's less about an actual artist existing and more about his own reverence). Like, In a lot of countries, you won't usually say 'hi,' 'good evening,' etc -- you'll say something along the lines of 'god be with you,' ' let the good in me be the good in you,' If you wish for something to happen, you might say 'god willing....' etc. And it would be harder to phrase a sentence without doing this. The colors are not a guess...different gases give off different colors under different kinds of light. We know the colors from studying them on earth and because we also know which types of gases are being omitted out in space, they can apply the appropriate color to the gases

@@SuperStargazer666 you can have colours on both, just you need to get several takes of same object by b/w "camera" (actually, sensor is b/w), each time with different a filter, including those not visible to human eye, like the IR filter, for instance. If you use a "colour" camera (more common between amateur astronomers since they are cheaper and easy to buy in any shop) you can chose whether to apply native colour grid on the camera's sensor or apply extra filters and repeat shots for each filter. Many amateurs do great astropics with common cameras, some of them earned a 1st place in NASA's APOD ;-) For research purposes, even by amateurs, filters are recommended, though (to exploit the sensor's max capacity).

I have been studying these images intently for over 20 years and they still blow my mind. Also, we built the Hubble telescope and sent it to space - and it didn't work. We had to send men up to fix it!

The James Webb Telescope will make Hubble look like a child's toy. It was originally scheduled to launch in 2007 and kept getting pushed back, it's now scheduled for October 31, 2021, Halloween night. The launch will be available to watch on NASA, ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) sites.
