So many people misunderstand the mother. She was willing to listen to Cole the whole movie, but he was the one who was too afraid to tell her his gift (his sixth sense). She was spending all her time trying to piece together what was going on with Cole, all of her time worrying about him and thinking about him, even in her sleep! She told the doctor at the hospital that something was physically happening to Cole, but the doctor didn't listen to her either. She loved him more than anything in the world. It's just a big shock when someone tells you they see ghosts! But you could see that the wheels were already turning in her mind. The light in every photograph of him, the writings on the desk, the cabinets being opened in a matter of seconds, the bumblebee pendant.

She was also impacted by the presence of the many ghosts that came to see Cole, it made her depressed and tired. Like Malcolm's wife, she was depressed even more because she felt his ghost in the house. That is why she barred the door to the cellar. He kept opening it and scared her.

Yes, wasn't that made explicit by the movie? He died from his failure, and must have been furious and disappointed with himself in his last moments. By meeting someone with the same problem and helping them successfully cope. He accepted that he couldn't change what happened, but was happy that he could at least understand where he went wrong. And maybe he was angry with the boy who shot him, and understanding the grief and pain his powers caused through Cole dissipated his anger.
@notbloodylikely4817

I never realised that. I thought the kid who shot him was just crazy and his issue was not being able to tell his wife he loved her. Not sure that was made explicit by the movie but I haven't watched it in a long time.

I didn't see it for another couple of years and still hadn't known the twist. I love how after all the discussion of how interesting and thoughtful the movie was they came back and praised how good an actor Haley Joel Osment was. Hi Ruby and Uncle, did you know that at @16:40, that doctor talking to the child's mother is played by M. Night Shyamalan (also the producer) who usually plays a small part in almost every film he produces. He's really produces some great movies! And Uncle, just wanted to let you know that many people abroad DO believe in ghosts! I know that scientists and academics largely do not, but many of us regular people do believe in them. I grew up in a haunted house, many that I've talked to have.

Secular materialism is a very simple way of looking at things like a sort of basic arithmetic that's very useful for solving most simple problems between people but all the truly great philosophers recognize it's inherently limited because the universe around us is so profoundly complex some things require a far more advanced mathematics to accurately describe in any pragmatically useful way. For example the Geocentric system can accurately describe the motion of the stars in Heaven for most purposes for the average observer but you have to take into account the way different distances from the observer can distort the relative sizes of things in order to understand the Sun is actually much larger than the Earth. Pascal who devised the Laws of Probability virtually all scientific evidence is tested by was in fact deeply religious and he was most certainly not alone. :)

I love how much fun these two have while watching. I saw this movie when I was 11 and, I hated the suspense and scary parts but I loved the ending even then. The *best* twists are the ones that make total sense in hindsight but are easily missed until they're revealed. Ruby _immediately_ caught something a surprisingly large amount of people miss. A lot of people think his 'regret' was not being able to reconcile with his wife for some reason. No, like Ruby pointed out, he needed to help a child. He failed to help the child that killed him and Cole had the same problem. He needed to help someone _like_ the child he failed.

@25:45, The Spanish, "Yo no quiero morire," in English is literally, "I no desire to die," or as we actually say it, "I don't wan't to die." It was someone begging for their life. A ghost in the recording, who drove the original patient (underwear in the bathroom guy) insane. BTW, M. Night Shyamalan is from India. His movies are known for their wicked end twists. We adore his additions to American culture. This is one of the best movies ever made, in my opinion. I am glad to have witnessed your reactions, especially the madame here, as we in the West often do not get to see how South Asian and Eastern women react to our shared culture. First, for the young people, "Sixth Sense" was made before every movie had a twist. Noone was even looking for or considering that (unless word of mouth or a terrible person ruined it for you on purpose). This two were great! They are so observant and intelligent, I thought they were going to figure it out early in the movie. So glad they didn't and got to enjoy that shock and realization. I figure out movies too early most of the time and it is just not as enjoyable. But, with "Sixth Sense" I didn't figure it out until the wedding ring rolled, same as them. It was so amazing seeing it for the first time. Glad they also enjoyed it so much!

It was wonderful to see the intensity, confusion, and sudden understanding of "The Sixth Sense" ending was very much enjoyed. Have you considered offering the film, "The Usual Suspects", to these curious, insightful, intelligent individuals, which has a phycological component to identify the criminal. The Usual Suspects has an unsettling and surprising end. It6s an exceptional film in my opinion.

I believe the psychological and spiritual world are one in the same, so many people refuse to even entertain or explore the connection. Loved this reaction! ❤ Such an emotional film.

These two should watch A.I. Artificial Intelligence too, so they can see more of young Haley Joel Osment being a brilliant actor.

You know a movie is great when, regardless of cultural background, something gets in the viewer's eyes at the same spots in the film. And, who has seen this movie and not been blown away by Haley Joel Osment's performance? Regarding the reactors: About 2/3 through the video, as I was reading one of Ruby's comments, I caught myself thinking, "Even though I may never understand a word she speaks aloud, I love this woman."

The maker of this film is indian and he's in all his movies just like Hitchcock. In this he's the doctor that tells the mum it might be a mental thing..
