I can see why it’s pretty divisive, what I liked about it was the commentary on franchises as a whole. So many series continue just for the sake of it, and Danganronpa has always been a tricky series to work on I feel. The first game established the characters as the sole survivors of Hopes Peak so following it up with another group of Hopes Peaks students wouldn’t really make sense but they managed to work that limitation into the mystery itself with DR2’s cast. I feel like they’ve always tried to work around stuff like that in as creative of a way as possible. At any point they could’ve just as easily said screw it and gone the cheap route with their storytelling even if it contradicted previously established material, which is where V3 comes in showing the worst case scenario for not only the company but for the fans as well, giving one last hurrah to lay the series to rest properly before it devolved into something like what the game itself showed

Actually managed to guess most of the twists before they happened not because they were obvious but I was usually trying to piece stuff together in my head as things went along which I enjoyed. The presentation as well with the endings was really good like with 2’s world devolving into a glitchy mess with that creepy 8 bit music alongside it. Meanwhile Junko I just enjoy as a villain, her demented duality of wanting to hurt the people she loves so she can in turn hurt herself emotionally I think is uniquely demented

I really like how the lyric "good easily fades away" plays when it shows Kaede and Kaito. It really shows that even though they're really good people and the "heroes", they were still bad people before the killing game and they did an atrocious crime like murder even though it was for noble reasons. @@Sakachi18 Can you explain your point on how Kaito was a jerk? He helped Shuichi and Maki grow as a person and he did want to protect everyone as shown when he talks to Shuichi. Also both of them were bad before the games including Kaede, Tsumugi showed that. They did commit a bad act which is murder but for a good cause(For Kaede's motive she wanted to kill the mastermind, for Kaito's motive he wanted to end the game and prevent further murders).

He attacked people whenever he got mad because they didn't agree with him or follow his ideals, so he would punch them and yell at them to try to get them to be like him. He always took credit for everything that Shuichi did (even if everyone always knew he did nothing and didn't believe him) and refused to believe it could have been Gonta, to the point that he was a jerk to Shuichi and guilt tripped him for believing it was Gonta. I'm not saying he was the worst person, but he was a self centered jerk who believed the world revolved around him and was a bully to anyone whose opinions differed from his.

@@Sakachi18 Hmm you're right I think the main reason why Kaito was so abusive and all that was because he was so emotionally unstable. Whenever he felt mad he couldn't control it to the fact he punches someone. He also really really values belief over logic which is why he can even go and beyond defy logic and reason. He also has a hero complex which may make him look at himself soo highly and think everything he's doing is good. Well Kaito may have his jerky moments but I'm pretty sure inside he's a good and justified person. He really did just want to stop the killing game and just help everyone escape. I suggest you go play or watch his FTE's. That may redeem him a bit.

I find Tsumugi more frightening than Junko. The latter is a larger than life supervillain whereas the former is just a sad obsessive fangirl who would rather live a fantasy life and kill to keep it going.

(not pun intended) Junko made the students in Hopes Peak Academy join the killing game, and even after she died, she still caused world chaos with the kids she brainwashed + her AI which she completed in weeks! And she barely has any knowledge about AI at the time(If I'm correct), not only that, even when she knew that Makoto could ruin her plans, unlike Tsumugi, she didn't get rid of him because she wanted to feel despair. Tsumugi only wanted her beloved killing game to go on, while Junko wanted to paint the world in despair, Tsumugi failed in doing her dreams, while Junko was successful. (just felt like saying this cuz yes)

In terms of the game itself, DRv3 cast were trapped in the worst situation. Mugi could bend the rules as she wished and had nothing to stop her. While Junko had to follow the clear rules, in DR1 due to the specifics of her goal, and due to being programmatically restrained in DR2. As a mastermind though, Junko is to Mugi what an eldritch evil would be to a human villain, just completely another level. P.S. Keep in mind, that depending on how one views the hints on v3's backstory, Mugi may be a tragic villain - the other survivor along with Rantaro, and her price for choosing hope was to play the role of the mastermind in the 53rd game...

I really like how much this characterizes Tsumugi in the background of the game really showing her true emotions- good or bad. I especially love the scene where she’s looking in the broken mirror. She looks so tired and done with everything as if she’s so disappointed with how things went that she doesn’t have the strength to fake a smile anymore. I feel like having 2 antags would have been interesting. Kokichi being the morally gray person that he is, would try and end the killing game and defeat the Mastermind while using some questionable methods to do so. While Angie with the minuset that she has, would try and stop the students from escaping and try to prevent more murders. I think these two would've definetly been able to make such an amazing sequence of events but sadly they had to kill of Angie before they got the chance 🥲

tbh I always see *Tsumugi* a _better antagonist_ than *Junko* because 1.) its not focusing on too much of the despair~ 2.) her motive is different but the fact that she is SMART, as shown playing cards with Kokichi since he is slowly starting to know who is the mastermind which Tsumugi made a huge move to make him more of a mastermind so that he isn’t able to find out even in the beginning, finding who is the perfect victim and killer which is Rantaro and Kaede she is finding a good plotline for each characters just like writers who make a plot/story

I definitely think tsumugi makes sense. Not only from the cosplay perspective and an obsession with fiction but also her being the most plain out of everyone all makes it feel like she was made to be the mastermind. My main issue is that for one, the reveal gets kinda cut-off by the game’s literally mind blowing second reveal which doesn’t really allow us much time to understand her true self since instead she spends more of her time as a villain explaining the plot twist. My second issue is that we never really got anything clues from how she acted so even though in hindsight it makes sense, while playing it feels like a complete 180.

@@shokomoonoo he hated the killing game and sacrificed himself for the sake of ending it once and for all. He left a will ("this isn't a will") in case his plan fails and tried to help Shuichi to figure a way to end the game. Honestly, I think even his freetime events are very telling. In FTEs with Kaede he tells her he cares about her and the others. His FTEs with Shuichi foreshadow the ending. It's like he taught Shuichi that you don't need to PLAY a game to win it. That's a neat detail. Akamatsu died because she tried to oppose the mastermind and make everyone cooperate. Which is way he was opposed to everyone's cooperation (at least not openly!). He distrusted everyone, but still cared about them, so he made everyone hate him to portray himself as the villain. That's why everyone believed him when he revealed himself as the mastermind. They hated him so much they WANTED him to be evil, and that's what he was counting on. He knows how blind people be and how they wish to ignore the truth because lying is easier, so he successfully used it. I think he's really empathetic person. Even though he tried to make himself look as malicious as possible, he still showed care and helped the cast. Like he did with Yumeno in the 3rd chapter, calling her out on supressing her emotions and making her listen to Chabashira's advice. He felt so shitty during the 4th trial he literally broke down crying because he sent his only friend to death (and then needed to cover his weakness up, don't let anyone, especially the mastermind, know he cares). He tried his best to comfort Gonta before his execution (like making a promise he knew he couldn't fullfill) and "revealed" himself only after Gonta's death, so he wouldn't die in despair in heart. When he could've just drink the antidote and survive, let Momota and Harukawa die (and they weren't exactly his friends), but he gave it to Momota, finally trusting him with his plan and died. He's interesting when you think about his words and actions. It's surprising how often he tells the truth, but everyone dismisses it as a lie (even himself).

Finally, some appreciation for Tsumugi. I personally like her story, she's one of the best characters imo, but it's generally true. She really isn't what you expected in the end, literally, & that's what makes her such an amazing character. She breaks the mold, honestly, so does this animatic.

She feels a little bit pointless throughout the whole game which makes the twist fairly predictable, the character herself is decent but it feels like a waste of a slot. Personally I think it would be much cooler to see her executed in chapter 2 instead of Kirumi as a sort of double murder thing like what korekyo's one shouldve been since kirumi needed more screen time and if tsumugi died it would feel more natural and the twist would be much more suprising. That's just an idea I have and I totally respect anyone who does like her!

As someone who has Tsumugi as my overall favorite character, this makes me appreciate her so much more. I remember watching this animatic with 0 context whatsoever of the game, but I just loved how it was made and watched it multiple times anyways. The theory I had was HILARIOUS though, along the words of Tsumugi crushing on Shuichi and wanting to get Kaede out of the way... It's funny to get everything now. And now I watch it even more often, it's so inspiring, the flow, planning and movement is just too good. Nicely done

Tsumugi is honestly my favorite mastermind out of the series. I mean Junko was great in the first game, but she got old after her reappearing after her death). Monaca was good in UDG, but then they ruined her in the anime(haven’t seen it, just the clip of what they did to Monaca) by sending her to space. Don’t know who the mastermind is in anime for Future arc and Izuru was overshadowed by 3D Junko in DR2. Tsumugi is one of the masterminds that isn’t giving too much screen time(Junko *coughs* ), isn’t overshadowed, and has an interesting character when you think about her being a plain fan of Danganronpa wanting to join her favorite series(maybe to feel special or like somebody).

I can't begin to convey how much I'm in love with this animatic!! Honestly? Tsumugi has always been one of my favorite characters and I just adore her character so much! I love all of the small details you added to the animatic, Like the part where they're playing the card game, the symbolization of the game itself as their little battle and the fact that one card had DICE on it and was the King card which made me think about how Kokichi claimed to be the "King of the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juvenile" and the Supreme Leader of Evil, and the fact the card Mugi's last card was Junko and was the Joker card, which were both *chef's kiss* Or the millisecond when Kokichi is being crushed and his smile fading into a frown (I totally didnt cry when I noticed that, totally) And I really love the mirror scene, because it indicates how much Tsumugi was just DONE with everything - She worked for Team Danganronpa with the mindset that everyone loved Danganronpa and want the seasons to keep on coming, and probably enjoyed her job there, so when she got the role to be the mastermind she was probably very excited to serve such a role. But then of course, she had to meet the, and I quote, "SELF RIGHTEOUS BRAT!" in the finale, and her entire mindset was probably more or less shattered, since it wasn't that they didnt vote or refused to vote, the AUDIENCE helped the three (and Keebo) and ended the killing game, and I feel like Tsumugi's look being like the way it was even before the boulder came proves it in some way. (That expression hurt me in a whole different way, since she didn't even look the slightest happy to die there and then) But yeah, tl;dr - Me rambling about how I love the details of this animatic and was waiting for this finished version so long that I'm absolutely adoring this creation. The wait was definitely worth it! Now, time to check the Zine...

It definitely did! It made me notice how much of a performer Tsumugi is. She really is constantly flaunting for the camera, with Monokuma serving as accompaniment. This animatic truly changed my experience of Tsumugi in chapter 6.

I have seen this a lot of times, and I have to commend this. It's just so awesome, the details, the style, the position of the characters, the scenes, etc. I love how cute it is like I already was thinking "this art style is super cute" when Tsumugi smirked when Monokuma told them about the killing game, or when Kaede was smiling at Shuichi, everything is super cute. I love when Kokichi started playing cards with the mastermind and those little details like when Kokichi stops smiling when he's about to be crushed, or even when Tsumugi stopped cosplaying Junko, and has resigned to waiting for her death by giving an ovation as if she had finished a play. But I'm sure my favorite part is when Tsumugi started cosplaying, I think almost died of a heatstroke of how cute it is. Everyone Tsumugi cosplays look so adorable I'm dying, especially Junko, Chiaki, Makoto, Kyoko, and Hajime. And I know I repeat how cute it looks, but it is. But at the same time, it brings me so much sadness, and I guess that, despair too. Hurts seeing everything happening again, and how great the songs fit with it (or better said, how well you made the game fit the song). When she reveals to be the mastermind, gave a lot of excitement, but when they reject Danganronpa? Damn, that gave me chills, so cool Everything is awesome, and I can't even express myself to say how much I love this animation. Great Job

It showed enough of the story of V3 from Tsumugi's POV, while still blending beautifully with the lyrics of the song and its rhythm ( * A * ) And the expressions you showed for each and every character, especially in Tsumugi's cosplaying in the final trial was soooo cool! That scene, the scene of her and Kokichi casually playing cards (Is that to reference the time Kokichi pretended to be the Mastermind?) up until the sudden silence to show the "true" events that led up to the first trial's death- those are most certainly my favorite scenes here aaaaaa The ending too, with the switching cosplays.... aaaaahhh I'm gonna go replay this now, good job on this animatic!

this is so so cool, i love everything about it!! i just finished v3 and i vaguely knew the whole time that tsumugi was the mastermind because i got spoiled for it, but actually seeing the big reveal that she was made me start to actually like her and the way you've portrayed her perfectly encapsulates why i do! i think she's a super cool antagonist, and i really like how you showed her reactions behind the scenes to things that happened during the game; shuichi becoming the new protagonist, kokichi's shenanigans, kaito's execution, the refusal to vote in the chapter 6 trial, etc. i love that part where she's looking in the mirror again but it's all shattered and she just looks so tired. i can only imagine, after the way chapters 5 and 6 went off the rails LMAO i also really love the way kaito and kokichi are centered in frame at "so many shades of gray", shuichi pointing at kaede with the "you're a villain", kokichi's antics being represented as him and tsumugi playing a card game, the music cutting out for the whole explanation that tsumugi actually killed rantaro and building tension for the big reveal, all the fun costume switching, her bow at the end, the limited color palette, the framing of the shots, the way the lyrics fit everything that's happening! it's all really good! i'm probably gonna watch this like a million more times, it's clear you put a ton of effort into it and it really shows!
