I played the Abbot like Data from Star Trek, but I have great respect for the way you deliver him. The dialogue you suggested is top-notch. If I run Curse of Strahd again, I'm going to mix it up by playing the Abbot as you suggested.

Love this, my players are on their way to Krezk now. We did a "soft restart" where they wanted to all play new PCs since they had made some campaign altering decisions prior (the tree blight from Yester Hill and a swarm of druids and berserkers and blights stormed Vallaki). So Ireena died in the attack, and fast forward to now, they take the black carriage to Strahd and he gives them a chest that's locked with Ireena's dead and rotting corpse inside. Strahd beats the PC's up, warns them not to mess with him and tells them he will reward them if they transport the chest to the Abbot so he can use Ireena's skin to make Vasilka look more like Ireena, but the PC's don't know "what's in the box". I'm excited to see what happens tonight with their interaction with The Abbot!

i basically plan on making him sound like the team fortress 2 medic. i keep playing the scene in my head - otto belview: "doctor, are you sure this is working?" abbott: "hahaha... i have no ideaaaaa!"

I wonder if the Abbot could be convinced to work with the party to help strike down Strahd. The Abbot is good but he has had to relax his morals for the greater good. I wonder if he could even be convinced to help the party end Strahd, like fight on their side, or even have him as a homebrew destined ally.

I'm not sure the Abbot can heal himself. The Healing Touch ability reads as : "The deva touches another creature. The target magically regains 20 (4d8 + 2) hit points and is freed from any curse, disease, poison, blindness, or deafness." which would imply he can only heal others.

Although I love the Abbot as written, I’d like to work on finding ways to make him more evil. Trying to pull the PCs in different directions: let this super evil guy live because he might raise dead people, or kill him because he’s doing super evil things? Or anything in between? Suggestions are appreciated!

Him requiring strange and macabre deals to resurect people, him aligning with other nefarious factions like witches or wherewolves, and demanding tithes from the people of Krezk could be a start!

I prefer to think of the abbots human voice as something alien. He's a being who spent eons speaking telepathically with other celestials and has limited experience with actual mortal speech patterns. Monotone with emphasis on the wrong parts of words and random intonations. Like the Thermians from Galaxy Quest, but more sinister

I Had to make a new Charakter after mine Got kidnapped and imprisoned by strahd. I wanted her to be a barovian by birth cause IT Made more sence to me to have someone joining the Party Like an NPC would. At this Point qe already Encounter the Abbot but didnt actually went throu His backstories or anything. Since i wanted to know more about him (WE Had legit No Info about him ) i Made my Chara conected to him so the Party Had to Go there again at some Point. My Chara IS His daughter. He tried to get more angelic blödes allies into barovia to Help him Bit non of them other thank my Chara survived. Her mother actually is vasilka, before the Abbot changed her into that Soulless creature. He mistreated His daughter because He doesnt have emotions towards Humans. After He noticed that she hast Not the Same Sort of Magic He hast (angelic) He Just used her to have more Body parts for vasilka... My charas Goal now IS to First get rid of her father since Hes Just as evil as strahd himself, free her mother - or whats left of her and afterwards save barovia

The abbot in my game is going to be an ally! He’s created the flesh golem but its not life like enough for him. In his brainstorming session and frustration he connects to the artificer in my group. The artificer will see that as inspiration to create some type of creature. (The abbot needs eyes, a heart that can warm blood, a voicebox etc for the bride to be). But the abbot does not realize he influenced the ideas of the PC. But he’s very grateful for the help if that pc decides to give the abbot his inventions. I think it’s going to be wonderful!
