Yeah, picked up the 40mm F2.5 on sale a while back for around $150 on Z mount so I don't have lug around/risk my work lenses for personal/casual stuff, and it's shockingly good for that price. I've gotten compliments on photos I've taken of my kiddo, and people just assume I'm using my normal kit, so while it does have slightly lower peak sharpness than my "good" glass wide open in addition to stronger vignetting, clearly nothing that prevents "good" photos. It's also light, small, and cheap, so I never worry about it.

Hey mark just bought the viltrox 75mm 1.2 with the little zv e10, thats a crazy lens, super sharp and that 1.2 helped me a lot since i dont have flash, just needed to increase some ISO. So here's a question, in terms of QUALITY ONLY and not worrying about brand or history, would you choose this or the Meike 55mm f1.4 you reviewed a few months ago? I've got a ZV-E10 and I tried out the cheaper Sony 50mm f1.8 and liked the picture quality but didn't love the slow and noisy autofocus so I returned it, so I'm looking for another cheap lens to try my hand at portraits/street photography.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis3 ай бұрын
@@RunningRisks that’s a great question. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either. I love the Meike 1.4 because I can get a blurrier background, but I think the Viltrox has a slight edge when it comes to overall image quality. But it is only slight.

Little off topic, but I just received my replacement Viltrox 75mm f1.2 and looks like they’ve made some hardware changes. The lens hood now snaps into place and feels more secure. Also, the rubber sealing feels different, the lens fits more snugly into the body. That’s all I’ve noticed. Hardware version shows up as 1.1 when connected to PC with USB.

I took a hard look at this lens recently, as I was looking to buy a ~50mm lens for portraiture, and I almost got it. But the TTArtisan 56 was on sale for $125 so I had to pick it up haha. It's definitely much worse in the corners compared to the Viltrox, but otherwise I've loved the lens and haven't had any issues with it, even for paid work. Lenses are so good these days though, and there are so many 'budget' ones that perform really well, and close enough to native glass for the majority of people, especially considering the considerable price difference.

Nice review as always. Is there any chance in your mind to compare this one to Sony Zeiss 55 f1.8? They have similar specs. The 55 is much older (1st generation FE). A used one is under $400, not as affordable as this Viltrox but has a pretty good value given full frame coverage, T* coating, and perhaps better AF? It will be quite interesting to see when paired with modern apsc Sony, which one performs better.

The Sony a6000 is the 1st in the newer apsc line up for Sony. But remember that the Sony a6000 has a much older CMOS sensor. Compared to newer Sony a series apsc cameras (a6400, a6600) the later ones has better color science because they use a newer generation CMOS sensor. But the biggest difference is in the Sony a6700. It has a newer BSI CMOS sensor which has much better light gathering capability and much better notice control at higher ISO lvls.

Pro lenses "as good a G-Master" - no, not really.... I have both as well as Sony lenses and while their optical quality is fantastic, it is not perfect. There is so much vignette at f/1.2 and 1.3 that the camera light meter often says f/1.4 is brighter and the AF is really only good enough for static subjects.
