Do you (or anyone) know if it retains the colour settings when switched off and then back on (I want to know because I'm thinking about using one as an enlarger light where the exposure duration is controlled by the power source switching on and off)?

It turns on in the last state in which it was left. So if your settings are where you like them, you turn it off then turn it back on, the settings will remain the same.
