Finally a vim tutorial. Playin' the oldies. Do "Mac is hipster brand signaling" next!
@DorperSystems2 жыл бұрын
I am sure that some people do it for hipsterism but that's a stereotype like Arch users being insufferable obscurantists with a superiority complex and no gf. who The M1 MacMini is very good spec wise though. I bought one and it's very nice, does everything I wan't it to do and more. You can pick one up lightly used for less than $500. I'm sure a lot of people buy Macs for hipster brand signaling but a lot of computers today are just overpriced plastic garbage. You have to go 4+ years secondhand for any PC-compatible laptop that isn't plastic trash.

@@DorperSystems the reason for the mac and apple hate is not the specs (it should be near the bottom of the things to care about) but all the bullshit and nonfree crap inside. It can and has made everything hard and annoying, degraded faster than a redditor's mind, deleted nearly all my data, and locked us up to the point we can't even downgrade or even just change the fucking icons anymore, let alone run Linux on the devices. Imagine selling a $4000 "professional" computer that can't do everything minicomputers from over 50 years ago can...
@DorperSystems2 жыл бұрын
@@iskamag Darwin is free software. The same type of hate does not exist for OS X that exists for Windows (which is nearly completely closed source). You can run Linux on any Intel or PowerPC Mac. A Linux port is in progress for M1 Macs. A Mac can do almost anything that a Linux machine can. Unlike Linux, OS X is actually UNIX® certified instead of Unix-like. What's one thing that you can't do on a Mac that you could on a VAX or PDP?

I just got into GNU/Linux and I really love it. I'm using Arch, but now that I saw your Art vid, I don't know if I want to. For now, I'm going to, since I restarted 5 times since I seem to fudge it all up. I'm an artist, so I tend to want more GUI interfaces that look good, but I find the shell so powerful, I'm starting to understand why so many technophiles love the terminal/shell. This just goes to show how insanely good it is. I've been using Kate, but maybe I'll use Vim instead. Thanks for sharing. At some point, I want to write a book about how we all can become much more enlightened (no religion involved) and happy, just by understanding how ourselves and other's minds work. Also, by using visual demonstrations, since some people won't read it if it's not easy to. I hope if I do write it, there will be an audience for it. Anyway, thanks again for this. ^^

Just want to comment that after you have used @v the first time you can just use @@. It's a shortcut to the last used macro. A number can also be applied in the start to tell how many times you want to apply the macro. I didn't actually know that when you use visual mode you can apply a command between the end and the start. I would probably have set a mark in the start instead. 🤷♀

@etkayapar60582 жыл бұрын
yeah he said he is using xelatex which is just a different engine to do the compilation. this means instead of pdflatex you would be using xelatex command. There may be features that won't work for both approaches in the same way, but I guess that's the reason why you would chose one over the other. In fact Luke said that he switched because of the better Unicode support, in xelatex if I'm not mistaken.
