The look of unparalleled joy on Jimmy's face is so genuine and infectious that I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the greatest moments of his life. Can't say I blame him though, even as a die-hard Giants fan. Hearing Vin's last game this year was wonderful, soothing, and heartbreaking all at once. His voice doesn't remind me of an old time radio announcer; his voice is what I hear in my head when I think of what an old time radio announcer sounded like. There never has been, is not now, and likely never will be a greater broadcaster in all of sports, perhaps in all of broadcasting. Much respect for the GOAT, Mr. Vin Scully! Thanks for all the sweet memories and fantastic calls. SF will miss you, too.

Okay, wow this is one of the few times where KZbin aren't mean or sarcastic. I'm Korean American and the first time i heard Vin was when Chan Ho Park came to Majors in the 90s. At first i just wanted to watch and listen Chan Ho, but i stayed with the team because of Vin Scully. He can read a phone book and i will listen the entire time. Los Angeles has been lucky to have someone so magnificent for generations. Along with Chick Hearn, Los Angeles have been blessed to have such legends for our sports teams. (also awdswimmer2 sorry about 2002 season, also Angels fan, lol)

I think Vin has had that effect on a lot of people. I've only lived in the LA area for a couple years and only just starting listening to his broadcasts recently, but I'll never forget how comfortable and at peace I felt listening to him call a baseball game. It felt like coming home after a long time away. I love my Giants, and our broadcasters (Kruk and Kuip and Jon and Dave) will always be my favorite, but Vin stole a part of my heart from SF. He was just undeniably great at what he did; I could see immediately why he became a SoCal icon. The man is made of nothing but class, and I've never watched/listened to one of his broadcasts without learning something new about either baseball history, how the teams are doing, or something about one of the player's background (sometimes even about one of the Giants). He set the standard that all other baseball commentators and broadcasters have been and will be judged by for a long time to come. Oh, I was too young and focused on other sports (hence the username) in 2002 to be too hurt by that loss, and I've got not problem with Angels fans. The loss that hurts the most right now is seeing Matt Moore's 8 inning, 4 hit, 2 run night go down the drain in the 9th against the Cubs. I told my buddy (Dodger fan) back at the trade deadline that the Giants' decision not to look for/pick up a closer might cost them a shot at the 4th championship. Turns out that that's exactly what ended their season. Losing in the NLDS hurts enough, but to have seen it coming for over two months and be anxious about it the whole time made it that much worse when I saw it happening in front of me. Now it's got me in a tough spot: either root for the Cubs to beat the Dodgers, like I normally would, or root for the Dodgers to keep the Cubs from winning a title then losing in the WS. I had planned on rooting for the Cubs, but after that Game 4...we'll see...

RIP Vin Scully, who passed away today, 8/2/2022 at the ripe old age of 94. Vin is the reason I became a ravenous baseball fan in general, and Dodger fan in particular. He is gone but not forgotten, and we will treasure the sound bites he gave us over his illustrious career for centuries to come

You don't really understand the power of Vin Scully unless you experienced it, unless you walked into Dodger Stadium on any game day in the 60s and all you heard was the voice of Vin Scully magnified thousands of times by the transistor radios in people's hands just as cell phones are today. And what announcer was ever so great that fans wanted to hear him even when they were at the game? None that I'm aware of.
