Let me tell you my story about Vince. Over 20 years ago, I was in college and working at the general aviation terminal at the airport, fueling everything from small single engine planes to airliners. One night, we had a private jet come in to pick up folks after a concert. The group was comprised of Vince Gill, Amy Grant, and various band members and associates. I was a big Amy Grant fan, and my girlfriend at the time was a big Vince Gill fan (and got me on board). It was not unusual for us to handle the aviation-related needs of celebrities, but it was unusual for us to have significant interactions with them apart from carrying bags. I was out near the plane as they all unloaded from the carpool, and I was excited to hear Amy say, "Can we take a break here for a minute." They all came inside, she immediately went to the restrooms, and I thought my chance to meet her was gone. Vince was standing there talking with the entourage, and some of us got the nerve to go up and ask him for an autograph. He was extremely kind and relaxed (and much taller than I imagined). He gave me an autograph, and I explained to him how I was a big fan of his wife. Well, she was in there for quite a while, removing makeup or something, and he eventually went over to talk with his colleagues. By the time she came out, it had been a while, and I decided I wouldn't bother them because they would probably be in a hurry to leave. As it happened, at least 20 minutes after I'd mentioned to him that I was a big Amy Grant fan, she finally reappeared, and Vince came back over and took a second to call across the room and say, "Amy, this young man would like to meet you and get an autograph." Everyone kind of looked at me, and as Amy came to talk with me, I'm embarrassed to say that I was a bit tongue-tied (she was remarkably beautiful in real life), and I rambled a bit about myself and my girlfriend. Anyway, she humored my story and was very kind, and gave me an autograph as well. I've never forgotten how kind and down to earth they both were, even late at night after a concert. Good folks...

When a voice isn't autotuned, you can hear the emotion, and it is wonderful. Anymore, they autotune or pitch correct everything, and all voices sound semi-mechanical, and lacking in emotion. It's so wonderful to hear a real, raw, human voice, loaded with emotion. She has an absolutely wonderful voice, but the sad truth is that if they ran it through autotune, she would sound like everyone else. I can't listen to modern music because it grates on my ears, but I could listen to this over and over. In fact, I have.

I'm pretty sure that was the guy's own guitar, and Vince had been playing it. It wasn't the 1942 vintage guitar Vince pulled out of the drawer at the beginning of the video. (Notice the first guitar didn't have a cutaway, but the second one did.)

The editing really fooled me so thanks! I had to watch/pause/replay/repeat several times to see that. I was focusing as if it was uncut 2-camera from 0:22s on but the guitars were obviously different. I didn't notice the cutaway first but the pearl accents on the guest's guitar with the '42 having rosewood or some very different natural accent trim. At the end, dude by him on the couch regrets not bringing his. Welp, I learned a lot from just this comment on youtube, and that is rare these days! haha :D Regardless of my mistake, isn't it cool that we just do that at all levels? "Lemme try your guitar out if you don't mind". Not sure Eddie Van Halen would but he's...well...he's a jerk. (wait, should I be mad you ruined the moment that didn't happen? This video and comment section is too nice for youtube!)

This is how you become a musical soul. My dad, who died in '07 owned that very orange guitar behind Vince, the one on display. We wouldn't sell it if one of us needed a transplant, it's too precious. Anyway, growing up it was great when Mom said to "get things picked up cause we were gonna make music tonight." A random group of musicians came and it was a different evening every single time. My job was to be the coffee girl until it was my turn to sing. Then all too soon it was bedtime. I'd lie in bed listening to that beautiful music for hours.

@@redrover3259 YES! That's what it is and we still have his old amps, which are the size of a couple small pianos, lol. I do feel very lucky, thanks for understanding that. He put me on a local stage for the first time at age 13. I sang CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS by Charlie Pride, changing the phrase "chosen girl of the social world" to "chosen boy." I remember him teaching me that after I sang the first chorus to "stand back from the mic a little" and "let the band play one." THANKS again for sharing my dad with me!

@metalcavy33. After being married to a bluegrass fanatic for over 35 years (he had 38 banjos & maybe 10-12 guitars) I don't mean to sound condescending but how else would a musician pick his instrument? By looks? And he might want one tone for a soft indoor setting, versus a louder tone for a back veranda jam session, or a hard loud tone for full on outdoor festival. They have an ear for it, and can usually pick out the instrument they want in a very short time.

I have been a hardcore metalhead for 40+ years. The only country that I listened to was Willie, Johnny, Hank and Hank Jr. I always have heard of Vince but, I can't name a single one of his songs. I think that things might change.

There are very few celebrities in this world that I even have a desire to meet but Vince is one of them. His earlier music let me tap into emotions I never new were there when I was going through a divorce, almost like he wrote them for me. Thank you for all the incredible music through the years and may God continue to bless one of the coolest guys on the planet.

Jeremy Dooley hi Jeremy! I️ stumbled up on your comment here my friend and fought the urge to keep my mouth shut. I️ just wanted to say that although we don’t know one another and chances are we’ll never cross paths, your comment nailed me right in the heart brother!! You say you’ve never considered yourself a Christian, but KNOW THIS!!! GOD IS REAL and He loves you very much!! And that feeling that overwhelmed you while listening to the song was The Holy Spirit revealing Himself to you! I️ pray you open your heart and listen for a moment to Him and that you would come to know Him!! I️ wish you the best my friend and God bless you brother!!!!

It's true... When you have an "ear" for music and play guitar, the tuning is quite elementary really. That being said though, I'm not trying to downplay his talent. The song he chose is one I grew up listening to and singing in church as a child...great memories. It's definitely sad to see this country turn from being God fearing and genuine to one another. God help us all.....
