WCW actually approached Undertaker many many times in the mid 90's to jump ship and Undertaker refused everytime deciding to stay with WWF. This is why Vince pretty much made Taker king of the locker room.

I am convinced the Montreal Screwjob is a work. But even if it isn't, I don't think McMahon overreacted there actually. I could understand the move from his perspective. The Batista fine is my number one annoyance. What Adam forgot to mention is that Batista wasn't the only one fined; his opponent (Jericho) was also fined, as was the producer, who had absolutely nothing to do with it. Class act as he is, Batista paid the fines for everyone involved so that nobody would have to suffer but himself. He said he lost the passion for wrestling the day Vince announced his fine. He bladed for the enjoyment of everyone involved and it made the story a lot better. The sad thing is that wrestlers feel restricted by Vinces way of penalising. If the wrestlers feel restricted they aren't having as much fun, which in turn shows for the tv viewer. Batista knew it. The man deserves a lot more credit than he's been given. Dave Bautista is a great man.

Though Vince McMahon has a lot of success he's still not right up there, the guy has some racial traits and as people know he has a thing for girly guy characters such as HBK and others, and notably he mistreated some of his talent and even had sex scandals as well as drug scandal and legal court issues, he's probably bipolar and has other issues that we don't know of, either way most wrestlers these days don't have the balls like most recent ones CM Punk & Alberto Del Rio, Batista even though ADR went back for the money though.

Whether or not it was intended, his decision still benefited him. On top that, he couldn't have Bret leave as champion even if he didn't take the belt to WCW. McMahon would be putting Bret more over for the other brand, let alone losing credibility on the WWE roster. Bret is the one who overreacted by punching McMahon in the eye and breaking his hand. He was one of the hottest figures in the industry after that incident, but put himself out of action for two to three months.

To be fair with the Nuggets one, the agreement wasn't for any random basketball game. That year the Nuggets and Lakers were playing each other in the Western Conference Finals, which for those who don't basketball is a fairly big deal. This is why it made sense that the heels were the Nuggets while Raw was in LA. It wasn't bashing Denver in COMPLETELY random fashion. Still quite petty, but the context helps it a bit.

+kolop1 When Vince could have easily told Bret, "drop the belt or you are suspended from TV." No, he decided to play him and the rest of the locker room and in doing so told them, that Vince McMahon can not ever be trusted and his word is meaningless. Great strategy by Vince.

The Montreal Screw-job wasn't an overreaction. Given the events that took place earlier with, Ric Flair leaving WCW with The Big Gold belt, and then having an angle shot using it really devalued the championship. Vince didn't want Bret to go to WCW and do the same to the Fed's belt. That's called learning from the mistakes of others. Also, the NBA Playoffs are more important than any wrestling event. Period. And as someone from Colorado who at the time was a huge wrestling fan, only like 12 years old, I was pretty annoyed by Vince doing this match. I had posters of a bunch of wrestlers in my room, not Nuggets posters mind you, wrestling posters. But how arrogant to get this upset that you had to schedule a regular show to another city because the NBA Playoffs are happening there. Plus the guy who owns the Nuggets also owns the Pepsi center so Vince basically said he never wanted to have a show in Colorado again because he burned that bridge.

@Britton_Thompson5 жыл бұрын
The Montreal Screwjob is not an overreaction to something insignificant. Bret forced Vince's hand. Vince literally had no other option. Besides, Vince was the one with the most to lose in that scenario. He put his own credibility, and his company's future at risk by doing that. This occurred when the WWE was most vulnerable with legitimate competition in the form of the WCW, and having a boss who's willing to orchestrate double crosses is poison to the company brand. Wrestlers don't want to work somewhere that has a toxic locker room divided up by cliques & politics, and a boss who's shown he's willing to side with certain cliques over others. The Montreal Screwjob really was the last resort for WWF because even if you succeed in winning the battle to remove the title belt from Bret, you've inherently gambled on doing something so momentous that it could very likely lose you the overall war you're fighting. Bret really was just being ridiculous throughout that whole process back then. Not losing in Canada. Not losing on Monday night Raw because it shouldn't be free service. Ridiculous... The only scenario Bret would agree to dropping the world title belt to Shawn was at an obscure house show in the middle of the week because Bret refused to lose to Shawn Michaels where it could be filmed and shown to the world. Bret really did screw Bret.

Adam your voice sounds incredible in every video. Keep up the good work. 😊
@richbaker82118 жыл бұрын
Don't really see the Montreal Screwjob as an overreaction. Firstly, you've got a PPV main event between two of your hottest stars, so you can't strip Bret of the title as it'll ruin that, thus giving more ammo to WCW in the process. Secondly, you can't run the risk of Bret pulling an Alundra Blaze on you. The screwjob was the only real way out of the situation, as it meant you could have a stellar match while making sure the title doesn't leave the company. That said, WWF weren't too shy about having Ric Flair appear with the "big gold" NWA title when he jumped ship to WWF back in 1991!

+Osmorosvo no, 11 other wrestlers were released the day before. Even further proof that there was no mix-up. Watch any shoot interview, when WWE sends you something, you get it the day you're supposed to. It was a huge dick move and there's no defending it.
@walsh90806 жыл бұрын
Sean Cone I'll happily defend it. An ex-employer is under no obligation to care about your plans for the future, especially not after you fucked their plans for the biggest night of the year. Answer me this, why should they care it's his wedding day? It's not their wedding day and it's a business Punk seriously burned bridges with. They fulfilled their obligation to Punk by providing him documentation of his release. They don't have any further obligation to him than that. It's not the nicest thing to do admittedly but to act like it's beyond justification is nonsensical.

I have never heard the phrase "mad as ceramic pants" before this video. Thank you for that.

I don't think the Denver one was really petty. The guy signed a contract and didn't honor it. Vince didn't sue him or anything, just mocked him subtly to the point that if you didn't know about the double booking you'd think nothing of it. That one was fine.
@GingerfulNerd9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought that was pretty tame. Still slightly childish, but I'd be mad too if I had something scheduled months in advance that had to suddenly be changed. Plus I'm sure I watched that Raw and had no idea about the sports teams thing because I never pay attention to that stuff.

Bret screwed Bret. With that line Vince turned himself heel.
@melindaharris30059 жыл бұрын
I disagree with the Montreal Screw Job being on this list. Maybe in hindsight, it seems like an overreaction. But let's remember that it took place during the height of the Monday Night War. And Vince had already seen what WCW would do to beat WWE in the ratings and put the WWE down, from giving away the results of a taped Raw to having to Women's Champion throw her title in the garbage. With WCW being able to announce the signing of Bret, why would Vince give WCW the ability to do anything to trash his company and it's most important title?

Bret did screw Bret. Vince was totally in the right on that one.. Bret was being an asshole refusing to drop the title knowing that he was about to leave the company & join WCW sooo he def got what he deserved.
@sobionekenovi74459 жыл бұрын
+boredXsomethingXIDK He hated shawn in real life so you cant really blame him for not wanting to drop it
@erikcastillo24758 жыл бұрын
Bret hated Shawn in real ice plus the pay per view was in Canada which is Brets home country so it kinda makes sense why he didn't want to and he even offered to drop it on a show but Vince didn't want that

I dont get how in some videos you can blast wrestlers for refusing to go out on their back and then always come back to Montreal like its the worse thing ever. You go out on your back, which Hart refused to do.

We'll all be happier when Vince retires and the PG era ends, I just really wish he'd hand the company over to Shane instead of Triple H because he's ran the company into the ground. Also give the Undertaker an apprentice to show the true ways of being a herald of darkness because he and Kane aren't going to be there much longer.
@kingjack79497 жыл бұрын
Wow. It's almost completely unanimous from countless shoot interviews with talent over two decades, that Vince did the right thing. Bret is the only person that still thinks he was screwed. Oh, and the smarks - who of course know more than the pros....
@alfiejkerr9 жыл бұрын
If anything, doesn't this prove the Vince needs to take a step back from running the company? I mean he wanted to fire Titus for minimal reasons and he's basically senile.
@jamesf7919 жыл бұрын
Since you brought up Vince being blown up, I thought it was only fair that they almost fired Paul London for smiling. Now Paul London didn't know they were going to kill Vince and while he was not the only star smiling (Kelly Kelly) he was almost fired for smiling.

+Fauzi Hashim I used to think it was an overreaction, but you have to remember the recording was found after a sex tape leak. Given that at this point Hulk Hogan is more of a liability than an asset, and his image doesn't get the big pops anymore, than it was a no brainer to cut him loose.

My Cool Stuff Rocks! Yes it was. It's retarded to think that bret wanted to lose the belt in his hometown,to Michaels of all people.
@walsh90807 жыл бұрын
Cornette also acknowledged that Michaels was a prick and Bret being childish and refusing to put Shawn over was a result of Shawn earlier refusing to put Bret over. Shawn had issues with many people at the time. Bret had issues with Shawn and the clique. I'm not going to blame Bret for reacting like he did.
@cameroncorbin69526 жыл бұрын
Its not about the Brett or Shawn, its about the company. If you have an employee who is refusing to do business, you do it for him. Simple, really.
@walsh90806 жыл бұрын
Cameron Corbin it's much simpler not to book the mess in the first place. How hard would it have been to book the match so he loses to Taker? That doesn't interfere with the Taker/ Kane storyline. In fact it would mean when Kane interfered at the Rumble he cost Taker the championship. Fuck you don't want him to hold it that long have him lose the next night on Raw. Bret respected Taker. Its entirely WWE fault for booking the match. They replaced Michaels at No Way Out the next year due to injury despite him being advertised for the main event. Easily could have used the same story here. Even Cornette said they shouldn't have booked it in the first place.

There would've been other ways to make a transition without anyone losing face, the simplest of them having Bret vacate the title right after defeating Michaels. That's why this was an overreaction.

the basketball thing was that wwe books the event months in advance and the Denver Nuggets made the playoffs that year and one of their home playoff games was scheduled to be on the same day the owner didn't want to movie the playoff game to another day so we was forced to moved it to the LA Staple Center which was the Nuggets playoff opponents that season

Wow, no Macho Man being perma banned from the WWE!? It took him being dead for 3 years before that bastard Vince finally caved on his hall of fame ban. Keeping one of your most iconic performers in history out of the company even after death is a pretty insane overreaction in my book.
