To be fair, wrestling had its ups and downs with mainstream television viewership way before wwe went on fox. "No Holds Barred" didn't light up the box office and wrestling was at it's peak in 1989, everyone remembers "ready to rumble" and how it completely bombed as an epic failure in 2000. Even present day attempts to broadcast a wrestling themed show have struggled. Look at "wrestling with death": didn't last a season. While the Starz show "heels" didn't last 3 seasons. Last but not least, "young rock" also didn't last beyond 3 seasons. Wrestling is just hard to successfully market beyond the 90s boom.

Its been like this ever since Survivor series 2011 when the smarky fans attempted to hijack the show by crying out for Zack Ryder throughout the night . Nobody took them seriously until Wrestlenania. 28 after Daniel Bryan got destroyed by Sheamus in 20 seconds and then they proceeded to hijack the show throughout the night chanting Daniel Bryan's name. That was when the smarkys outnumbered the casuals in the live audience . The same smarkys would disgrace themselves by chanting "Husky Harris " during Bray Wyatt's debut and they also chanted "Seksual Chocolate " at world heavyweight champ Mark Henry when word got out that Henry was a bigger ratings draw than Christian . Lets face it ,there is a huge discrepancy between how certain wrestlers are over with the live audience and the fact that the same wrestlers draw low nunbers for tv ratings ,PPV buys and House Shows despite being over with the live audience. I think Vince McMahon realised to his horror that the smarkys now outnumbered casuals in the live audience and he had been catering to them by pushing Daniel Bryan ,CM Punk etc even though those wrestlers werent PPV and tv ratings draws hence why business eventually went down Vince was forced to rely on Brock Lesnar,Goldberg ,Bobby Lashley ,Undertaker etc during the latter stages of the dreaded 2010s just to boost PPV and tv ratings . Some of those smarkys were so arrogant they demanded that Mr Mahon should feed Goldberg to Kevin Owens ,Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler . That should tell you how arrogant those smarky fans became . THere is no doubt they drove off the last of the casual fans .

Define "nerd". Which to be fair describes a lot of internet dwellers, not just wrestling ones. Now instead maybe you mean nerd in the "likes comics and video games" stereotype. Cody is playing the most generic boyscout video game like hero you can possibly ask for.
