Thank you Miss Sinister Seventy! What a sweet thing to write! I hope this tutorial helps you! A lot of getting good (or perhaps better) on the guitar is hanging in there and continuing to try while your brain and fingers slowly adjust to the challenge. It's not easy, I know. I have the advantage of having played the guitar seriously for 55 years, since I was 16, so all that time and practice has given me some advantages. Best of luck to you on this song and your adventures with the guitar! - Glenn

Wow, another great presentation! What I really appreciate is that you can credibly sing along with these parts. That's an element that's lacking in other payers/instructors. It's a very important aspect of understanding how these songs go together. Well done again!

@@glennwillow5124 I didn't get a sense you talked too much. I thought this lesson was clear, direct and understandable. Your ability to be able to sing the parts really helps those trying to follow the song. I am a pretty advanced player and I appreciate anyone that can break down a song so others can learn it. I think you are doing fine, keep doing what you're doing. You're going to have a great following. I too am semi-retiring, playing out more, Covid killed the big leap in 2020. But, there's a future for us older guys that know how to play and want to share a great period of time that created some of the best music of this and the last couple of generations. You're doing a great job of performing, teaching and video production, thank you and keep going!

@@glennwillow5124 it was. My right hand became paralyzed one year ago. No apparent reason. Now coming back. I always liked that song. Haunting pentatonic scale at the nut. Ran to the guitar and got it down in a brushing sort of way. Some control of my thumb and middle finger. I grew up at festivals listening to John Hurt and Elizabeth Cotton and then Tom Paxton etc. always finger picked. Was good but not nearly as easy as you. You play effortlessly. I admire people like Tommy Emmanuel but I can’t listen to that too long. I could listen to your playing all day. It’s peaceful. Thanks.

@@robertlee8042 Thank you Robert! I am sorry about your paralyzed hand, but I am glad you have gotten your guitar out and are trying again! To me, the guitar and the music associated with it has been such a huge comfort over the years. I feel so grateful that I have had a guitar available to me over the last 56 years, since I was 16. I spent some time learning to play Tommy Emmanuel songs but as I made more videos I want back to what I always did, singing and playing essentially folk songs. That really seems to be where I belong. Thanks for this! I just wanna ask, is the picking pattern you used in the first G the same all throughout the song? You kind of didn't talk about the picking anymore, you just told us what chord follows another. Thank you!
@glennwillow51247 жыл бұрын
Hi Leon, The picking pattern on the first G is the "Starry, starry night" melody. So it's kind of unique to being able to bring out that melodic pattern in the song. The basic picking pattern I use is discussed at about 2:22 in Part III of the tutorial, Part III may also be useful because it has cameras on both left and right hands as the song is being played so you can see what note is being picked at any time. I hope this helps, Leon! - Glenn
